Well, ive been thinking of selling the VX II SS and getting something else instead.
The problem is what else is there?
as much as i like driving the SS, and the fact its manual as well, i just cant see myself using it as a daily driver.
The leather is annoying after a while on warmer days, there are no real luxuries to speak of - sure it has air, elec windows etc but its just lacking the refinement that i enjoy.
i know a lot of you wont understand that but i like little luxuries, i like the feel of power (and the roar of a V8) but i also enjoy ride quality too.
i dont need to be bouncing around, feeling bumps in the road, hearing road noise all the time.
lately ive had more enjoyment driving the BA Fairmont instead - which says its time the SS went.
so, for a daily driver under 25k with comfort, power, style, quality and something i can live with and enjoy every day - what do i look at?
(6 speed is preferred over a 4 speed if at all possible)
BF XR8 or XR6T with Premium sound, 6 speed and sports leather is one option i have considered but id like a few more to make a better informed decision.
so, what would you consider under 25k that would fit the criterior - doesnt have to be a Holden or a Ford either.
it could be a 4cyl or a V10, for all i care it can run on Diesel too - whatever.
My dad has a vz calais supercharged. the motor is so much more refined then the ecotec. The ride is incredibly smooth and, wack on a good exhaust am im sure it would make a good note, its also a good base to start with. It has MANY options and luxury items. suade everywhere, premium sound system, cd stacker, electric seats with memory, electic windows, mirrors, dual zone climate control, curtain airbags, traction control etc etc. From memory there are 26 computers running the show, even the dash lights have a dimmer switch not just 2 settings low or bright. The auto in it is ultra smooth aswell, its a 5 speed auto.
So, i suggest a vz calaisthey look mint and go hard like a holden should
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
get a decent second hand BWM. all the comfort and luxary in the world.
After being in one of the Vic guys WL Caprice, I can say those things are plenty luxurious with a bit of boot as well. Not to sure on prices, I do believe he got it for under 25, its like being in a chaffuer car.
Ps. If you sell your car give me a shout, im in the market for a manual VX SS.
Z3 maybe? unless you've got a bald spot![]()

Vy calais V8. Power with a few extras.
Do you know if the Fairmont Ghia's can have the XR6 turbo engine? If so then I'd definately be looking at that, luxury and an awesome drive train
You want luxuries but then say you want an XR6T or XR8? The VX SS has nothing differing except the sound system
Go buy yourself a VY/VZ R8 or Senator. Can't go wrong there.

VY/VZ clubby if you can find one for that price. Shouldn't be to hard in today's market.
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
your shitting me? if thats the case, Holden dealers are lying bastards!!. Ive never really looked under the bonnet coz dad tends to keep me away from it. Dad bought it in 07 and that was their selling point. a supercharged calais. It was a executive driven car. Its badged as 190kw under the side indicators.... guess i should google some stuff about vz calais before i start suggesting cars![]()
Yep not supercharged
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
unfortunatly, the Ghia did not get the turbo option (the FG did - G6E-T) but FPV did put out the Force 6 and Force 8 which was basically a Fairmont Ghia with either the 270kw Turbo engine or the 290kw GT engine.
Prices are still over the 40k mark so its out of my league.
Grennan, id be looking at 15k for the SS.
Some interesting ideas have been raised.
i like the LWB's and the Calais as well - everything a car could offer.
BMW has crossed my mind many times too, but if you knew where i lived and where i work, it would attract the wrong attention (in house joke)
i even had a look at some Hondas last night too, just dont know if i could happily live with a FWD car.

the vz calais 6 was 190kw, so not only not a factory fitted supercharged, but as f1tzy said, not supercharged at all (< unless the previous owner supercharged it and left the badges on)
as for your options davway, I would be looking at either a VZ Calais V8, a WL or WK Caprice, orrr my personal favorite would be a VT series 2 Senator.
I know exactly what you mean about liking those little insignificant luxuries that you never really use but you know theyre therei do drive a calais afterall haha, and i reckon if your going to get a hsv, it has to be a senator
I've driven an LS1 WL Caprice, VY Senator Signature, VY SS.
The Caprice is like a limo, really huge, luxurious, has TV's, looks great lowered and you can pile all your mates in. Only thing is it's big and feels a little boatish.
The Senator has more power than the Caprice stock, has stiffer suspension and is more rigid on the road. Not as much room but plenty of luxury and looks good too.
The SS (my car) doesn't offer luxury wise what either of these cars do but is still a very nice car to drive. I think the VY was a huge upgrade over the VX. Much nicer interior and better looking, so i wouldn't knock back the thought of a newer SS. Get a VY/VZ with climate control and leather seats and i think you will be very happy with it.
All of the above will fall into your budget.
If you want luxury and quality, Ford definitely are not the way to go... Holden have much nicer interiors and build quality.

do they VY and VZ SS have climate control?
Not all of them but alot do. If you got leather in the VY II you got climate. Not sure about VZ but im guessing would be the same deal.
Mazda 6 MPS FTW!!!!
Thats wot I plan on getting next.
If they release it in the new model. . . .
Otherwise it'll b a 3 MPS!
Either way zoom zoom
Stoke my ego, click the scales!!!
Stoke it!!!!
LOVE IT!!!!!
Some do, some don't. Some come with leather and not climate control. I do think though that the VZ SS was only climate control, but not sure... maybe just the vz's with leather.
Also, you could look at the SSZ which is very nice, or if you are after the 6L engine then a VZ SS with L76 or L98.
Some people have recommended BMW's, Mazda MPS, etc. All very nice cars, but don't forget your coming from a V8... lots of power and torque... a smaller engine might bore you.
