The only difference between the 165 and the 185 was the tune and exhaust, wasn't it? I think you'll be wanting an aftermarket tune once you buy the car anyway, so it doesn't matter which engine you start with

The only way to tell MIGHT be with the engine number. Or maybe the code on the vin plate? Hmmm...

It will have the hsv memcal and the VN style headers, that's it dunno what car your looking at but all VP-VS's are like that. VN's both have VN headers obviously It doesn't matter if it's the 185 pack or not as everyone has said it's no different. So worry about the condition of the engine first and foremost

Look for a knock sensor screwed into the side of the motor. About 3/4 back, just above the sump, usually on drivers side.... Thats usually the way I pick it when someone says they are running a 185kw motor/tune.

Its probably just a stock motor, not a 185.

As has already been said, they only got that rating with bolt on stuff, stuff that given aftermarket, would give higher number (ie, a full twin system exhaust, instead of the still very restrictive stock system)

You can put your own knock sensor on.....

I have mine still in a box, cause i never got around to it. Hasn't caused any issue tho.

Well just to get it straight there is no 185 motor, it's the same motor. All it has is the knock sensor screwed in it the VN headers bolted on and the HSV tune running the show apart from that there is no possible way to tell the difference since it's the same motor
