seen this in the daily tele a few months ago. I understand the need to make roads safe, but i really wish this much effort went into dealing with thugs and street crime.
need for speed rings a bell lol.

"4: Starcatch: fires GPS transponder which sticks to a pursued vehicle so it can be tracked"
AWESOME!!!
So I guess it wont be long till holden releases a James Bond-spec model which has machine guns and rocket launchers that pop out the bonnet too!!... I mean... that seems like the logical next step to me... wishful thinking maybe
hrmmm tracking device shoots out of the front grill interesting
I'm going to make a rocket launcher that shoots it back
hehehe
and the flur sounds like a tampon on the roofracks
haha , well technology is evolving so quickly! car magnets- so if ur close it draws and attachs the pursued car and eventually bring the pursuit to a stand still... i looked at some cop cars around the world , suprising really, anything from a 1 1/2 cyc. toy car thingy to a lambo! haha

A device for transmitting messages over other car's stereo's?
*cue Eddie Murphy*
'Pull Ovah!'
Yea, they've been developed since almost 2 years ago. They've been in "testing" since then. The looks changed, the original decals looked better than this crap! Looks too much like the marked evos.
Gotta love the number plate recognition! Scans EVERY number plate it sees even when out on patrol. Any vehicle that's unregistered or belongs to an unlicenced driver is told to the police member.
Mirror is also a HUD unit. They can look up building data, hazardous chemicals and quite a lot of other stuff. No need to remember anything now!
They should be on the road very soon too.
Heres some more pics:
Older 07 Prototype [still with the crap paint job]
Boot pic. Each of these vehicles have 5 different ways of communicating back to base. Using GPRS, Police channel and a few others. Ensures theres pretty much always a connection.
Close up of the number plate scanner. And yes, infrared lights so it works in night too even if you dont have your lights on
Internal camera that relays back to base.
Thanks for the update Alien! All these Luxerys i wanna be a cop now LOL!

No problem. In an average patrol shift the numerplate camera will scan around 9000 plates!
Also, the radio overrider is the same idea that CityLink uses in their tunnels. If there is a problem they bombard al frequencies with a message. Only works if your actually tuned to a radio station though. Wont work if your listening to a CD.
And here's what i'm talking about, paintwork on this looks too much like the evos with the orange line!

looks like an english bobby's car...gaayyy
why not put the money into teaching kids how to drive better...haha
Laughing my head off imagining if you fired one of those GPS transponder missed the car and hit some pedestrian in the head. At least you could continue the chase and come back and help the person later, cause you know where they are.

If that happened the chase car wouldn't do anything, base can co-ordinate medical attention to the person based on the GPS signal. Basically these vehicles take out a lot of the crap, everything relays back to base! Base make decisions based on what they see from the cameras.
hmmm i smell a scent of 2fast 2furious! (at the start of the movie, the thing disables ur car)... the evo may look gay but i imagine it will be bloody quick!
and agree with (alien) and now cops dont have to think base will reply back saying unregistered or so. and bang lights are on and away they go!

the paint job on those things is pretty hideous.

alien you know your stuff; how do emergency vehicles in Australia alter traffic lights and traffic situations? Have always wondered this
I don't see how this will stop hoons, more criminals fleeing a scene, unreg'd cars etc.
VS Omega, i think there are a few states in Australia that use different systems to control that. E.g. Some intersersections are actually controlled by a control centre [e.g. like in Sydney].
Down here in Vic there are multiple types. Currently Victoria has over 3200 traffic signals which are linked to a small number VicRoads servers via telephone lines [please note these are only operative in the major areas... Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Shep and Ballarat]. Each server can control up to 128 signals. They have the ultimate decision. With these ones they can be controlled remotly to turn green [especially with the new vehicles which are tracked by GPS they can be set to green so traffic flows so they can keep rolling on]. That is how mostly atm they are working, however there are IR transmitters still in use which get picked up and change the lights.
I think the number plate scanner is a top idea as there are plenty of people out their driving unregistered and unlicensed.
My car (liberty not commodore) was driven atleast 6 days a week for the entire 12 months I was unlicensed (note it was NOT driven by me) but the driver was never pulled over, not once for a check. You'd think in 12 months one police car would have ran the plate to find its registered to an unlicensed driver, but no. Fair enough it is a granny car though![]()
One thought would be that it would be able to catch you if you're driving around unregistered for some reason... another would be that if you have your car or numberplates stolen they'll actually realise and catch the bastard/s.
Thanks for your response alien, interesting thought that, I was thinking they were all controlled via IR though I guess this method is better because of the new availability of the units through certain sources online
