Default Help with prepping front bar

Just after some info on what I need to do, I am getting a front bar I purchased repainted to the colour of my car, to minimise cost, I want to prep myself, and then drop off to the painter to paint.

My understanding is, I need to buy different grades of sandpaper, get the clear coat off, and sand until I am at a fine grade of paper, then paint with primer, the bar is mint, so does not need anything fixing on it.

Does this sound about right? Can someone just let me know if this is basically what I need to do, or anything I have forgotten?

    Thanks

if its mint a quick rub with 800 wet will do it, no need to prime
