hey there,
I am tend to favor Caprice's they had more in them. They also hold their value better.
For a decent stock standard expect to pay around $5000 for a decent one.
White, Silver are two colors that tend to not have alot of fading etc.
Differences:
Caprice - Series I extra's are.
- More chrome on bumpers and side wheel arch skirts.
- Has skirts all round and that go half way up the lower part of the door.
- Velour or Leather as standard.
- Roof lining had radio controls, and vanity mirrors, also had Speakers in there.
- Walnut (real wood LOL)accross the dash and all round the door trims.
- Different Grille
- Fog Lamps (although illegal to turn on in SA)
- Speaker pods in Front Doors.
- 8 speakers can be wired up sounds great when done properly.
- LSD usually come with 3.08:1 but you might be lucky someone has upgraded.
- Alloy wheels - can be polished, series one wheels "centre caps plastic - tabs break off" bad design, series II better.
- Boot Spoiler (two types both little lips style)
- V8 only
Caprice Series II
- electric seats drivers and passenger
- different color skirts not "gold" now "greyish in color"
- ABS Brakes
- Larger INJECTORS, more fuel flow.
- V8 only
Statesman - Series I. (major differences)- Hubcaps
- No speakers in front doors or roof lining.
- no wood grain on dash or doors.
- no skirts all round.
- no chrome on tops of bumpers and wheel arch.
- not standard with LSD - optional extra
- V8 only
Statesman series II.(basically the VP Model
- Came with alloy mags.
- Black 2pack painted wood for dash, door tops etc.
- Boot Spoiler (little lip)
- LSD standard
- ABS Brakes
- Larger INJECTORS, more fuel flow.
- Optional V6 version
There is also a SV5000 version HSV, basically same as Caprice with a few extra badges and chip upgrade to computer. With a rare twin throttle body one out there too. Haven't seen one in like forever.
VN Commodore.
You'd have to be making it a Calais to have the same options.
Not Independant rear.
I am sure there are more standard stuff.
hope this helps.
Just a note to that,
Series 2 statesmans didn't come with LSD as standard and i'm pretty sure there's no difference in injectors between models...
Anyway, definately go the VQ, comfiest cars going round and a few mods can get the old 5L moving fairly quickly.
I am biased though, lol.
