    LSD is just the centre.

    You can either:

    1) buy an entire second hand LSD diff housing and drop it into your car
    2) buy an entire second hand LSD diff housing and have a diff specialist swap your centers for $300
    3) take your car to a diff specialist, and have them install a brand new LSD center for you for around $1000-$1500.

I personally bought an entire diff containing a second hand LSD with 3.73 gears from a wagon for $500, and then had a specialist drop that center into my car for $200.

$500 for a 5000km old 1.5 way KAAZ LSD (with receipts) and 3.73 diff gears - and he threw in the almost-new brake rotors on either end. I think that's a goddamn bargain for a nearly $1800 setup.

We're not talking an old sloppy viscous LSD. This thing skips like a locker in carparks under light throttle.

+1. Wtf??? Oh, it was posted at 3.15 am - way past Zuicider's nighty night time. That's a post that could have waited till morning, methinks.

Morton - your wagon LSD centre fitted the VQ independent rear end - have I got that right?

The Wagon diff housing (what Mortons is from) is different so he only used the centre

    Hi Greenfoam

Yeah, I realised that before posting. That's why I asked. I didn't know that the live rear axle and the IRS diff centres could be swapped between the two. For some reason, I always assumed that the IRS diff centres would be different.

I've had both axles in my time but never had to touch either, so I've never looked at either of them closely and (touch wood) it's something I don't have to worry about.

Oooooh nonono, don't get me wrong. I had that LSD fitted from a wagon diff, into my LIVE AXLE VP commodore diff. NOT into my Statesman.

I still havn't tried to have the LSD and gears fitted into my IRS Statesman In fact, the whole diff (hub to hub) from my VP is still sitting in my garage

I'm going to hold onto that good KAAZ LSD until my standard stato LSD wears out, then I'll get it thrown in ^_^

Aha! Mystery solved then. It would surprise me if the centres are interchangeable.
