That's the beauty of EFI, they can tune for all temperatures and adjust as needed.
With a modern engine there is no need to wait after starting once the idle settles, just don't rev the engine until there is some heat in the oil. sitting and idling till she's warm just wastes gas.
Yes modern cars are much easier in cold weather but idle issues can still exist even in modern cars (if there is an issue with a temp sensor or with cold run mapping, either factory or post mods and tune)…
Heck my unmodded daily injected car isn’t perfect as it has has issues in hot weather and feels dead on the throttle when air temp gets above 37C. So sometimes I like old school carbis and their manual cokes but they could be a pita to get working well at different temps and altitudes.
Got electronic ignition and carby with my VC...Warm up is, the motor spins over 2 or 3 turns before it fires...I then select reverse gear and let the clutch out and away I go...No choke either...That got taken out and thrown over the shoulder
I used to wait 6-7 mins before driving off. In the VR i'd wait 10mins. Now I wait 2-3 mins while I set up the phone and get some tunes going. I try not to go over 1800 until I hit the highway but it can be tricky as I need revs to change gears, the 6060 likes revs and warmth to change gears more easily. Ideally with my 6060 you don't change until at least 3.5k-4k.
I used to warm up my old car but only because the drive to work was short and I wanted to get some heat into it, the next car I stopped doing that and took it on a long ride every couple of weeks to heat it through.
I got a bit of a shock today. We walk the dog past two servos in the morning. Both were 2.07 for 91. I had to go to Bunnings this afternoon and passed three servos. All three were $1.69. One is an independent and is always lower. The other two must be cursing their luck they are in the same vicinity.
I'm driving by the time I can put the belt on and turn the radio down a bit. I think you're dreaming of you think letting it idle cold to warm up is doing any good.
driving the vehicle helps heat everything up like gearbox, diff, oil, power steering (if mechanical) and such, just letting the engine heat up then taking off u still have dead cold diff and cold gearbox ect
$2.06 for fuel today. Been sitting at that price for a few weeks. I don't see it coming down again, now that prices have stabilised. Still mid last year they were predicting $3.00 a litre by Christmas. Glad that never happened.
