rang holden today near my place and quized them about using a tech 2 and adding custom text etc they not wanted a bar of it. how much did the cluster cost u etc etc?

Yeah my local Holden dealer wouldn't touch it. They were banging on about not touching HSV parts because they wanted to protect the brand or some horse crap.

I had to take it to a more rural dealer - they'll do anything

Cluster cost $425 from ebay. Also cost about $200 to have the Odo changed to match my car.

Worth every penny imo. Especially at night!!:thumbsup:

I dont think Tech 2 can do custom text the same way it cant change the odometer reading, you need certain software that certain people have and holden aint one of them. :thumbsup:

anyone know if you can replace the clear plastic cover which surrounds the cluster?

mine is scratched to buggery.

Matt is kinda correct - there's just so much that can be done with the Tech2 - the diagnostic utility is much more useable, but ONLY for the cluster. The Tech2 can communicate and configure ALL the systems in the car - BCM, SRS, ABS, etc etc. What I have talks to the cluster ONLY, but is more "configurable". And changing the odometer reading requires a lot more than just plugging in a magic box and pressing some buttons - it requires a good bit more than that, details of which will not be revealed here!

744driver - the clear plastic can't be bought as a spare part, Holden want you to buy a whole cluster.

Have you tried buffing the window? With good fine buffing compund they can be brought up quite nicely - alternatively, I have a window that I could part with - it's not new, but it's in good nick. PM if you like....

I found on one Welcome to Just Commodore Spares - Holden Commodore Parts
It was 3 window cluster off a '05 VZ Berlina for $275, freight was $25 from SA

I was in 2 minds to get it or not, in the end i decided not to.

Tech 2 cannot put custom messages on the dash.
tech 2 cannot change the std HSV messages in any way
