G'day, I have a lowered vn and a badly damaged spine. Are there any particular shocks that will give the softest ride? As I really don't want to return it to standard height if possible. The car doesn't seem to absorb much at all right now, and as a result, after 5 mins of driving I have to stop due to pain. I understand lowering is going to stiffen it up generally, but any improvement from the old standard shocks that apear to be in it now, will b helpfull.
Cheers.
What size wheels & tires have you got?
How far is it lowered?
What sort of roads do you drive on?

my sister has back problems, got hit with a hocky stick in the spine when was younger and put a disk out of place. We set her car up with hand controls (run by a fly-by wire), and put a bus seat in her car - obviously has to be certified, but the bus seat we got has a few adjustments - back up,down, tilt etc, as well as the part you sit on - BUT it also takes the jolt from going over bumps etc, maybe this is something you should be looking at. Other than that, I had some BC Red adjusties in my turbo primera, which you could lower the car as much as you wanted, then from there adjust them hard/soft on a dail on top of them.
like said above also, bit more tyre height will also help absorb some of the bounce in the road - not much thou.
Hope this helps.

Higher profile tyres will also soften the ride..
Try driving around on 19's, and then switching to 15's.. You'll notice the difference
I know the feeling as my back got broke in 6 spots
as said above easiest option is to put a smaller wheel on so there is more tyre wall to soften the blow.
You can swap out the shocks but honestly I can onky see a very small improvement in doing that
Yep, as above guys, need to know what size wheels, and how far is it lowered...
Getting a set of coil overs and softening them will have the opposite affect.
Provided it hasn't been slammed I'd be putting some KYB's into it in a bid to control the lower (and stiffer) springs, and if that doesn't work, look at tyre sizes etc.

It's got VE 16in pursuit rims with 225/55/16 tyres, so allready pretty small. I didn't lower it, and from what I've seen the springs could possibly be chopped? So I can only describe how low it is. With the tyres and rims mentioned above, the wheel arch covers up an inch over the rear tyre, and half an inch over the front. Bear in mind the vn has the flat rear wheel arch.
I've tried to post pics from my iPhone using the correct input, but have had no luck, sorry.
If the springs are chopped theres your problem they will compress at the wrong rate, secondly you might be driving around on bump rubbers so then you arent using your shocks & springs at allHave a look at my wreaking page at the ride heigh of the VP calais im wreaking. Is that about the height of your car? (http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...-auto-irs.html) It has lovels in it, not sure on the model it rode pretty nice when i drove it.
In your situation, If it was be I would go for FEII height or King SL or the equivelent in other brands. Decent shocks the KYBs are excellent, then play with your air pressures in your tires to tweak the setup maybe around 34-36PSI depending on the roads your driving on. The whole system needs to be looked at from springs, shocks, wheels & tires and air pressures.
If your not able to do it yourself you need to get it to a suspension expert other than pedders to find out exactly what you have so you can then make decisions about what move to make.

That car is about 2 weeks in this world before it is sent aray for Baked Bean Tins![]()
If it was my car I would then look at Springs and Shocks possibly raising it a little have a look on the tops of the bump rubbers if they are clean and the impact part of the susension shinny your hitting your bump rubbers on those hard bumps, also talk to the GSL guys about also changing some suspension rubbers, front strut top ones might have sagged.
If your budget can afford it maybe even an adjustable shock so you can fine tune the car to your requirements.

Thanks for that. But I'm trying to picture what ur talking about? Could u pls explain a little differently
about the bump rubbers, and where they get shiney?
Also, I thought the bump rubbers on the rears were meant to stop the spring from hitting the metal? Is this wrong?
Cheers.
