Hi, i bought some kyb excel-g front struts a couple of years ago they've only done about 10000k, and one of them has developed a "knocking" sound when going over bumps. Im absolutely sure its the strut because pretty much everything else has been pulled apart and retourqed with new bushes.
so im wondering whether youve seen this problem before? because i need to replace it and i don't know whether to just buy 1 replacement kyb or replace both struts with a different brand...

Replaced oem with superpro strut tops and new bearings. Have got the oem bump stops in place.
I had a similar problem. I had brand new KYB Excel G's and brand new SuperPro strut top bushings and bearings, and I developed a knocking noise. I got two replacement struts under warranty and the noise disappeared.
Interesting.. I'll ask the question tomorrow!

Any idea on what part of the shock was causing the knock? Watches thread, i may be in the same boat
Ok spoken to KYB, and they said 99.99% of the time a knocking noise is heard with VR-VZ Commodores, it's the front sway bar links. They said they're actually yet to see a genuine claim of a shock knocking that wasn't links or strut tops.
Check that your sway bar bushes are still in good order, and also that the washers are the right way around... which is the opposite way to what most people believe it is... is, the washers should look like this on the bush: )0(, not (0).

Interesting. I had new SuperPro swaybar link pins and bushes on the front, installed correctly, re-installed and double checked, and new strut tops, reinstalled and double checked. Ended up taking it to a suspension specialist and with the shocks out of the car and in a clamp we could feel the knock in the top of the strut when pulling hard on it with our hands. My shocks were replaced under warranty.
