Hi GSL.
I have been given a set of GM standard springs for a commodore vs v6.
I put them in with a set of Monroe GT gas shocks but now the ride is too harsh.
What shocks do you recommend to maintain the ride comfort?
The springs look the same thickness but when I measure the coil ends one end is thinner than the other.
Which side goes up and which direction should the pointer on the spring seat point to maintain the spring alignment.
I threw all the old parts out as they were worn but now I'm thinking the old shocks were oil shocks and give the impression they are worn.
Hi mate,
First problem is that the GM springs which would be STD, the spring rate will not be as strong as Kings. Second is that GT Gas are a very budget shock, so don't tend to control the oscillations of the spring very well, and as such the car doesn't tend to ride very well.
Would recommend BOGE shocks , which to suit are $125 each for the front, and $59 each for the rear.
Springs should be the same thickness at each end, the coils closer at one end should be fitted to the top.
Any other questions just let me know!

Greg

Thanks Greg,
Would a set of standard height king springs give a smoother ride even if they are stronger?
I'm not too fussed about handling, I just need a decent ride cause my back is stuffed.
Also does it matter which way the pointer on the bearing plate should face?
Some people say outwards others say toward the engine.
Hi mate,
When matched with the proper shock, a slightly higher rate spring can yield a better ride as the spring is less likely to crash out.
To be completely honest, I've got no idea what you're talking about with the pointer... is it on the strut top itself, or on the bearing?

Greg
