    Post Replace Auto Gear Shift with Satin Chrome

    HOW TO: Replace Auto Gear Shift with Satin Chrome

    What you Need
    • Small Flat head
    • Small Philips screw driver
    • News paper or floor.
    • Satin Chrome replacements
    • About 5/10 minutes

    Stock


    STEP 1 - Removal of Button (1)
    Squeeze the sides and lift the button at the same time.


    STEP 2 - Removal of Button and spring
    lift the button and the spring from the gear shift and place on some paper


    STEP 3 - Unscrew the handle
    After the removal of the button and spring, unscrew the 2 small screws to release the handle


    STEP 4 - Remove the handle
    Lift up the handle and place on the news paper


    STEP 5 - Replace with the new Satin Chrome Handle
    Put the handle over the button holder, then clip in at the base of the handle



    STEP 6 - Screw in the new Handle
    While holding the handle screw back in the original screws


    STEP 7 - Install new button
    Squeeze and hold the sides while pushing in the new button.
    It is a good idea to press the button down a few times to confirm that it all works.


    STEP 8 - Enjoy

    thats a good write up and chance the vt - vx chrome tops come off like that?

    Not to sure - If the shifters look the same i assume the same process would be work.
    The first step of removing the button, would be a good test.

    thats a great write up mate top work. looks heaps better with the silver bits hey. Ive got em in my VZ. Just need the steering wheel inserts too.

    The VT shifter has a pin running through it under the shifter trim.
    Unfortunatly you will have to remove the console to push that pin out in order to remove the button.

    Do you have a "how to" for the handbrake button?

    Nah mate the Vt ans Vx is a little harder. You have to remove the center panels ( the ones surrounding the gear shifter) and release a pin to take off the button. Then in reverse with the new button. Releasing the pin is very fidgety and extremely frustrating. Took me quite a while to do mine....but its worth every second you spent on it. Very classy.

    you wish i should have done it when i did the blue LED for the buttons

    you have to pull half the console out

    Hey.. excellent write up... I opened mine as it seemed loose.. I observed i am missing a spring..!!!
    plus the are under the button is all greasy n gooey... Is it supposed to be like that?
