    Default Auto Headlights

    Timed Auto Headlights

This guide will help you install kit KC5379 (Versatile Auto Timer) for $42.95 from Jaycar to be used as auto headlights in cars that did not have them installed. The kit will allow you to have your headlights turn off anywhere between 0.1 seconds to 16.5 minutes. It can also be used to pulse the headlights on and off at a certain rate or on off at set periods of time.

All instructions and diagrams are based on a VN but can be used with other models if you know your wiring.

    Tools/Parts:
Jaycar kit KC5379 $42.95 and appropriate box
Soldering Iron and solder (solder included in kit)
    Wire striper
    Side Cutters/Pliers
    Wire (included in kit)
    Electrical tape

    1. Assemble the kit, instructions are included. Test that it works and that you have soldered all joints properly! I missed one and it took me forever to spot!

    2. Set the circuit bored up so that LK1 and LK2 are in there lower positions so that it’s operating one shot, going low. Set the time you want the headlights to stay on by choosing your multiplier by moving the link on LK1. For example I removed it to get x1. Now adjust the 2 BCD switches to get your time, the top switch is 1’s and the lower switch is 10’s.

    3. Time to connect it to the car. I placed my auto timer in a box near the fuses under the steering wheel, seemed to be the best place since you got to run wires to the headlight switch.

    4. Now you need to remove your cluster surround, on a VN/VP, 4 screws. Once taken off unplug all loom from the switches. The headlight switch will be the one on the right side, on the bottom with 2 white/black wire’s, 1 Orange/white and brown (I think brown).

    5. Now cut the white/black wire and the brown wire with enough space for you to get some solder in there. Use the diagram to connect these 4 wires to the 2 relays, I used spade connectors for this bit. I left the relays just behind the switch and ran wires up to them so I didn’t have to add anything to the ones I cut.

    6. Now connect wires to the rest of the terminals on the relays using the diagram. Take both 86 terminals to a earth point and 85s down to your relay upper NO terminal and to a ACC source. Dont forget to add a diode between your ACC source and your relays so you dont get 12v feeding back into ACC and consequently triggering the timer over and over again.

    7. On the auto timer wire the 12V terminal to a constant 12v, Earth to Earth, Signal to ACC, upper NO to ACC (done in last step) and upper COM to 12V Constant. All others require no connections.

    8. Test function of auto timer (you will need to have the switch for the headlights plugged in), turn key to ACC on and off with the light switch in the off position, lights should stay off. For switch in headlights or parker position, turn lights on with ACC off, lights should not come on anless you turned the ACC on recently. Turn car key to ACC and lights on, turn keys to off and lights should stay on for preset time.

    9. Secure timer and cables, I wrap mine with electrical tape to help it blend in with the stock loom. Replace dash surround and reconnect all switches.

Now this isent all the timer can do, but im sure the people out there that wont some headlight flashing will play around with it anyway

Not too sure im right on the colours in the digram, pretty sure its all right but not sure about the brown wire, might of been tan. Also the relay on the PCB is rated at 5amps so you probeverly could run the feed stright through then but i already had the realays in there from before to just make them go off with ACC. Anyway enjoy!

    Non-Timed Auto Headlights

    Tools/Parts:
    2x SPST Relays
Soldering Iron and solder (solder included in kit)
    Wire striper
    Side Cutters/Pliers
    Wire
    Electrical tape

    1. Remove your cluster surround, on a VN/VP, 4 screws. Once taken off unplug all loom from the switches. The headlight switch will be the one on the right side, on the bottom with 2 white/black wire’s, 1 Orange/white and brown (I think brown).

    2. Now cut the white/black wire and the brown wire with enough space for you to get some solder in there. Use the diagram to connect these 4 wires to the 2 relays, I used spade connectors for this bit. I left the relays just behind the switch.

    3. Run a ACC feed and earth to the appropriated terminals on the relays.

    4. Reconect switch block and test is function is correct. Lights should only be on when the keys are at or past ACC except when starting.

    5. Secure cables, I wrap mine with electrical tape into the loom to help it blend in. Replace dash surround and reconnect all switches.

Here you go jack, V2 without timer delay. This practicaly costs nothing to do assuming you got 2 spare relays and some wire.

Cheers Smisch.. You don't recon there is any way to be able to turn them on without the keys?

EDIT: maybe a second switch hidden somewhere...

Yeah but why the hell would you bother when its as simple as turning the keys to ACC? If i put a second switch in it would act as a isolator to switch between auto headlights and switch controled (stock switch) Would you like that diagram

Cause occasionally I cant be arsed to get my keys from upstairs.. LOL

As for the flashing, that would be epic if I didnt have HIDs, as it would wreck them.. LOL

Good circuit for the older models to install that feature.
