First, I have done this on VX,VY and VZ. Should also work for VR/VS/VT. Colour codes may vary so check your manual or do a bit of testing before you wire it up the way I have done in the diagram.
I have been asked a few times as to why wiring up a set of spotties or driving lights can't be done the normal way on a Commodore. The main reason is that the newer style Commodores us what is called "positive switching". Simple terms mean that the switch / line have constant power so wiring up extra lights to work off the high beam in a conventional way will not work.
Follow the diagram below to install a set of spot lights or driving lights. Ensure you have a switch installed so as to remain compliant with state / territory regulations (separate switch for on/off accessory lights when high beam is activated)
*This can also be used for installing fog lights using the park light circuit, check the colour coded wires in your manual*
Hope this can help some of you who do long distance driving.

Thanks for the information, I was going nowhere fast trying to work out how the light circuit works.
I have just wired up some spotties and these instructions worked like a charm
Pictures of my wiring into headlight harness and the lights working.
Now all I need to do if figure out how to get the wiring for the switch into the cabin...

Nice work there! Im looking at getting a set of Roolite's (Lightforce copy) with the HID upgrade. Put a set of them on a mates 4x4 and they work really well. Always helps to have good lights when travelling

Did mine the conventional way...turned off the lights spotties came on!!!!!!
Yeech Thanks for proper instructions.......
Glad I could help out with some good info for you all
I want to install driving lights on my VX does it matter where on my bumber i install them? they have brackets on them already(the thing that makes it tilt up and down and which screws onto the car)
Also does it void your insurance?
Installing lights will not void your insurance. Just let your insurance company know you have installed them in the OEM position (Im guessing you want to install fog lights yeah??) and all will be fine. You may have the wiring loom already there if you look behind the front bar, ready for a plug and play solution. All you may have to do is buy the proper headlight switch with the fog light button.

so when wired like this theyll work with the high beams on only or with headlights separate to the high beams?
They will work when high beams are activated. This is the proper way to do it as a lot of places may ping you if they are separate to the hight beams (ie able to be activated when the high beams are not on)

awesome im getting myself some lightforces for xmas so im glad i came across this before i ripped in like i would of on my old hq lol
Check which wires you have used at the plug. What model do you have?

The wires as per the diagram are what I used on a friends VZ not so long ago. Check to ensure you have not used other wires or inadvertantly cut / pulled out a connection from the plug.

Good work chief, this setup works spot on. I spent ages trying to find the power wire as i have fitted lights on other occasions without drama. After spending an hour or so and starting to get the s**ts finding multiple power wires, i figured i better give www a look. Cheers.
