Hey guys Did a idler pulley on a vx Commodore V6 at work the
other day.
From reading the other threads on the forum some people are
having problems taking the Air-Con Idler Pulley off its shaft in
some cases breaking the hub.
So i am writing up a How To. With out Damaging the hub/thread.
Note this is for 2000 onwards.
Also any DAMAGE or INJURY you incur is at your own risk and i
take no responsibility.
You will need the following
Idler pulley Repco Part number-RPU502
Claw clamp 75mm.
14m socket
15m socket
16m socket
17m socket
breaker bar/ratchet set
Extension
Here we go
1 We need to first take the Fan Belt off. So get your 15m socket
and breaker bar/extension turn the pulley tensioner anti clockwise
to take the belt off.
2 Now that the belt is off we can concentrate on the Air con idler
pulley.
Grab your breaker bar,Extension and 16m socket crack the bolt
(anticlockwise) on the Idler pulley.
Now you will think that the pulley would just slide out. Wrong the
Idler Pulley has its own plans. So do we.
3 Get your Claw Clamp
4 Now grab the 17m socket and have it handy. place the Claw
Clamp over the Idler Pulley insuring that the hooks are well hooked on. Start Screwing the clamp with your hands and use the 17m
socket as a spacer. Once its hand tight grab the 14m socket and
ratchet start turning the claw clamps thread the pressure difference
will allow the pulley to pull forward and come of its hub/shaft.
5 Here you see the Idler pulley coming off with out getting
damaged
6
7 You can put some sort of lube on the shaft if you want.
Now amazingly the new idler pulley will slide in.
8 Now screw the 16m bolt back in the idler pulley. Do every thing
in reverse now.
There you go no grinding no hammering no swearing.
