    Default Clean the PCV valve.

Im doing this thread up as im currently doing project big bore. Now this little ####er right here is the result of the crap in your plenums and throttle bodys.
Soon to come is a how to guide on removing the PCV valve when i get around to doing it.

First, what is the PCV valve?
The PCV valve (positive crankcase ventilation) is essentially an emissions control device which recirculates hydrocarbons produced in the crankcase back through the inlet manifold so they are drawn back in with the inlet air charge and combusted in the motor, rather than discharging into the atmosphere.

To clean and remove it is explained below.

To get to it. You will need to remove your plenum. How to can be found in thread "Get back some lost power: Ecotec". Since your taking it off, clean it too.

    There is the PCV

Pull the spring out, if the PCV doesnt come with it. Your ####ed.... Kiding.

Get some long nose pliers and pull it out.

Thats the PCV, now shake it like crazy and if it rattles its good, if it doesnt you will need to replace it.

Stick the spring and PCV into some petrol and shake the hell out of it to clean it.

Thats them cleaned. You can blow and rub it with a cloth if your not happy with that process.

Now lets say the intake is still bolted to your car, lube up a rag with some WD40, RP7, INOX or whatever your poison is. Jam it down the hole till you cant get much more rag in there, and start rotating it.

Thats about as clean as i could get mine using this method. As my intake is off i can clean it spotless.

Put the spring firmly on the valve and reinsert.

Jobs done. Now put the plenum and such back on, -evil stare- once youve clean that too. Thats it.

Nice write up, the piece under the PVC will also pull out (at least mine did). Unfortunately you will always get some oil coming up through the the PCV valve. The only way to prevent that is to block it off completely. While you have it off, tap (thread) the top half of the plenum. Should you decide to block it off permanently later it's only a matter of screwing in a grub screw with some loctite or silicone without having to split the intake manifold again.

    Cheers
