I did this little fix on my VP today, and thought it might help someone else out.
What was happening was, the lever was always stuck in the up position, which didn't bother me too much, but then a friend pointed out that if i was driving on the gears i could accidentally slip it into reverse while going forward, I certainly didn't want to find out what would happen
First step was getting the shifter knob off, i followed a nice picture 88greenVN uploaded years ago to help: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...-1993/95451-vn-auto-shifter-knob-removal.html
Then i found the problem, a small spring that was snapped in half.
I went to bunnings and found a spring that appeared to be roughly the same, the packet is below for reference.
and then put it in the place of the old spring.
I put the knob back on, and it worked well, if i could be bothered i would have got a stiffer spring as this one doesn't push the lever all the way done meaning that the stick can move between N D 3 2 freely, while it is only meant to go between D and 3. Luckily that doesn't bother me because second gets used regularly
My shifter knob didn't stay on as well as it before because it got stretched and gouged on the way off (silly design :L) so i used some inner bike tyre tube to pad it out and make it firmer.
I hope this helps someone out!
