I have signed up after reading this thread, and repairing my broken odo. A fiddly job, but so easy to do if you follow the instructions. Able Instruments were very helpful and sent me the new gear required for $18 including postage.
I got the speedo-odo out, got the damaged gear off, found the missing tooth, replaced the gear, all back together and is now working like a charm. Very handy especially for those of us that do our own oil changes etc.
Top thread. Many thanks.
Got $11 gear of ebay, whipped the speedo & put the gear in & #### me it didn't work! Pulled it again to find 1 of the missing teeth stuck in the outer gear it runs in. Removed it & all cool!! Top stuff guys.
I picked up a VR wagon for a song a couple of weeks ago. My misses insisted that I take it to dealer to get the odometer fixed. Followed the instructions here and did the job myself for $12. Wonder what my chances are of getting her to let me spend the money I saved on beer?
Just wanted to say top thread and pics always help heaps. Just replaced the cog on my VS and worked like a charm, instructions were spot on and managed to do it without removing the speedo needle. only had 2 teeth broken but that was enough to stop the thing from working. Didn't really like forking out $15 at my local wreckers for such a small part but they had it in stock and it meant I could do it straight away without waiting for one to come from Ebay. Great thread and prob spent $15 to save upwards of $100 if I had to pay someone to do it, now time for a beer, cheers.
Top thread.
We got quoted $300 by our mechanic to replace the ENTIRE DASH for a broken odometer . . . blah.
We're doing it all ourselves on our old girl now, just need to order part.
Godzilla, hope you got your beer compensation.
