So my VZ SS L98 was giving me some grief.

Its Symptoms:

- Very Poor Fuel Economy (300k's to a tank)
- Very Rough Idle & When Pulling Into A Car Park
- Cloud Of Black Smoke When Giving It ****
- Smell Of Running Rich
- Leaving Black Soot On Driveway

I went back to GM Motorsport who tuned the car and they want $150 to run a diagnostics on the car (ie: plug a tech 2 in)

I was pointing at o2 sensors being faulty as not much else can make it run like that. Problem with the VZ's is they run 4x o2 sensors, and they're very pricey compared to older model Holden sensors.

I spoke to a member here, Dirbatua, and he put me on to a sponsor here who sells everything you need to run a full Diagnostics.

Without hesitation i purchased it, for only $70 you would be crazy not to!

So i ran the diagnostics, and was able to point the finger.

At the start i was very confused as it was running at the start, but it suddenly just read 0 completely. luckily Dirbatua was able to clarify that the computer would be relying on the cold start tune then once it was warm it would rely on the o2 sensor to do its job.

Next step was to call around and get prices:

Bursons: $110 each P/N: EGO-106
Repco: $127 each
Holden: $147 each

I went to Bursons to go pick them up as they had to order them in, but they were two different brands. I requested Bosch sensors, but one was a Walker. I wanted Bosch because the sensor reads from the tip, and not the sides (which you'll be able to see in photos)

So i only took the one home, and got the genuine Bosch part number and ebay it. I was able to have one shipped from Kentucky, USA for $64...

In the end, the job took about 20mins and was very easy. i think it was a 22 open ended spanner. i took it for a drive and she feels amazing now! and no more cloud of black smoke!!

So Big Thanks To Jason @ Envyous Customs For All The Help! You're a bloody Gentleman with all my annoying Emails haha

also a big thanks to Dirby for putting me on to him! seriously guys his Diagnostic kit is awesome and i cant recommend it enough!

So you have 4/o2 sensors.
On the read out there is 6 readings.

Are the low readings 0/60 are the bad O2 sensors?
I ask as I may buy one aswell.
Cheers Pete.

theres bank 1 & bank 2. so first set and second set.

the right/left lines arent 6th readings. just which is reading 0. all them were fluctuating except the 0. which even when revving and holding at 2k it stayed at 0.

I see thanks.

So you are going to replace both front O2 sensors?

already replaced them! i thought if ones **** itself, its not long before the 2nd one goes.

if you need to replace yours, call bursons, ask them for the part no. if they give you EGO-106. go on ebay and look up Bosch 15284 and order those. save yourself some money.

though, V6 to V8 might different o2 sensors, but never know they might be the same.

Yup my thunder has done that , always on the left side for some reason . Yeah get the o2 sensors off ebay way cheaper then what they flog them here for.

You can also get the rears turned off in the tune , or use some of those o2 spacers/minicats to trick the rears in thinking everything is fine . Since once you put a more high flowing cats on , the rear o2s spaz out .

I would do the same.

So the bosch type that reads from the tip are a better type?

What do you call this type of sensor with the tip?

What did you ask for from Holden?
