OK I replaced my roof lining yesterday i followed thr info on this page and it was very helpful.
It took me about 2 hour to complete the whole job , i think it was the easiest thing i have done on my car.I got the foam backed fabric from ebay it was the exact match to what was there it cost me $ 150 which included the cloth and the spray glue and delivary.
    Thanks for the info.

dont know if anyone else got back to ya, i have a VS II that I did the lining on.

took it out, patched it up and replaced it (ok, left it sitting in shed for 12 months first)

will upload photos of it soon.

The Grey edge liners in the roof have small metal "tongue" connectors that wrap around a plastic tongue that pushes through holes along the edge of the roof. they are sort of "spring loaded". best way i found to remove is below (I did break the first one, which led me to the below method)

1> with a very thin/flat screwdriver (or even a strong teaspoon) pry under one edge (AT THE END, NOT THE MIDDLE) until it is blocked, that will be the first clip.

2> at the spot where it is blocked (With blade still in), insert larger blade (from underneath) and then push down toward car floor, GENTLY. If the clips are really tight, put a larger blade on each side of clip and push them down simultaneously.

3> repeat until all out and the trim will fall off.

4> Some of the clips will pop out on the trim, some will remain in the roof cavities. When putting back up just align the plastic tongue on the trim with the clip and push.

the key word here (From a heavy handed nut like me) is GENTLY
After breaking the first one, I had no dramas.

The whole project cost to me:

    2*Spray on glue ($15 each)

1*'last roll" of auto trim carpet from supplier - $15
(they gave it to me for $15 - 3 mtrs worth - coz it wasnt perfect match)

About three hours of my own labour to lay it.

    Cash cost: $45

And PS: now the thing is in the car you can barely see the slight tone difference and the cheapo material has the thin foam liner to back the carpet as well.

My can ran out half way through and i ended up buying the K&H brush on glue to finish it off. Dried fine. Won't sag ever. I used a ton of the stuff. Went through the whole summer fine, and the car was always parked outside in the scorching sun.

I skipped the foam. You don't need it.

I used grey material from spotlight. It came with a waterproof backing. Its especially designed for curtains so its not thin. You'd think i had the foam behind it...but i like, don't.
I will second this. have already seen several days with 30-36 degrees and the "autobahn orange stuff" (2 cans of it) has not shown any signs of surrendering... and yes many people have noted it but you have to layer the stuff on both surfaces, spray one way onto cardboard, then wait a bit, and respray the other way. then apply to material and it will stick like S$%T to a blanket

I also re-applied to cardboard around the edges when applying the material just to be sure.

Not sure if it is the same problem as yours but i ALMOST had this problem in my VS Stato.

Once put back in the car, look at the back near the windows, is the roof liner edge visible over the trims?
If it is, you need to remove the liner, and then reinsert from front of car so back edge of liner slides into tiny groove between trim and roof. DO NOT TRY AND BEND THE LINER BEHIND THE TRIMS..... IT JUST AINT GUNNA WORK

It is a pain, and barely noticeable when you put it in. The big clue when you put it in the first time is that all the front visor mount holes dont quite line up. I spent about two hours trying to correct it the hard way, then removed the liner and reinserted it. Second time it was completed in about 15 minutes.

Hey guys, looking to tackle this on my VT as it really needs doing. I'm gonna try for the magic orange Autobahn stuff for the adhesive and 5-10mm foam from Clark Rubber. I'll check out Spotlight for the material, just wondering how much I will need to cover the roof? And any suggestions on how think of a material?

EDIT: Ok so my Spotlight must be the worst in Australia as the widest piece of material I can get is 1.5m wide... any suggestion for other Spotlights in Sydney?

So far got the headliner out... This car was defiantly a bush basher before I bought it... everything was full of dust.
Got most of the foam off with a Broom.. Cheering aha.

Hey guys, just wondering if the dark VZ headlining would match the dark grey interior VT Berlina?

I've only seen a few photos of it in a VX Clubsport, which has the black interior.

    Cheers!

Dunno about VT but VS headliner is 1.3m wide and 1.6m long. Tried a couple of other methods first but finished up settling for this.

Got this piece of felt fabric on special for $5/m from my local QLD spotlight, so material was $10 all up, I got 2m x 1.5. Its a thick stretchy stuff.. stretchy is better if you want it to conform properly to the cardboard's shape. Thick means the glue doesnt bleed through the fabric.

A can of basic brush on kwik grip for $15 bucks and job solvered boss. Total cost, $25.
