Default Stop a VN Air Vent Rattle

I pulled the air vent off to stop the vibration rattle. The black insert had 1.5mm gap and rattled. I figure lots of them must rattle too.

So here goes.

1. take fuse panel off by sliding the pin out.

2. remove 3 screws holding the vent cover (1 inside by the fuses)

3. remove the 4 air vent retaining screws. Long fine thread.

4. gently lever up under the circled D type clips. this separates the Air vent into 2 parts.

5. using a flat blate screw driver you slip the open close wheel locator pin from the vent door slide.

6 use a very small amount of sealer/all clear to fill the gap and put back together.
NOTE if you slid the black insert back on a slight angle the open/close wheel locator pins slid in easy.

7. dont get sealant everywhere.

8. you can let dry over night or just put in back it - up to you.

Awesome. Needed this guide mate, I know it's old but I don't care - it deserves a good bump
Now add some more rattle fixes!! My VN and VR have millions!

Haha not bad

I personally prefer to stick thin wads of newspaper in things to keep everything tight, as I pull my vents apart every few months to wash them, and sealant would make that difficult

Work out how to stop this one: vents in centre of VR dash

Sooooo irritating.

Sooooo irritating.
The vent has a small rubber washer and metal cupped (very thin) washer to hold it (air directional thinko) loaded in the vent cradle. The plastic gets "tired" and may not have enough pressure.

I added an extra black washer to my vent - stopped it flopping around.

Also with plastic bits a small amount of blue tac can have a very positive outcome.

Hmmm getting the middle vent out - when I painted the vents black in the wagon I had a spare dash to paint all the bits - but painted the dash pad in the car and just swapped the vents over later.

How did I get it out - I think there is a small lug top & bottom a few mm high in the middle of the vent.

All I remember is that it took a little while so as not to damage the dash.
