HOW TO:
FLIP TRUNK LID
This mod is extremely easy and gets a lot of attention aswell, it is great to show off your pumping sound system and those killer personalised plates at the same time.
During this mod you are not required to remove the boot lid itself, this job can be done by 1 person making it nice and easy.
MATERIALS
2 x 120mm lengths of 20x20 SHS
2 x 22mm lengths of 20nb (21mm) pipe
4 x 140mm lengths of 50x50 angle (trim down to shape)
2 x Nylon bushes to seat in the pipe
4 x Nylon washers 2mm thick to suit ˝” Bolts
And Suitable sized pop rivets
Step-By-Step
1. BRACKETS take a length of SHS and cup the top with a file to sit the pipe snug (grinding a ‘V’ will be fine)
2. Place pipe on top (Pic 1) and weld in place
3. take pieces of angle and trim so that the heel is 25mm with the hump at the end(enough for the head of the bolt) (PIC 2)and leave the toe at 50mm, drill a 13mm hole 12.5mm in and up from the hump end. (REMEMBER TO MAKE BACK 2 BACK COPIES LEFT AND RIGHT)
4. Assemble bracket together as shown in (PIC 3), note the nylon bushes and washers are green, do not over tighten bolt yet
5. BOOT remove end dust cap where the boot lid is fixed to the brackets aswell as the top bolt holding the lid on only.
6. Slide pre-assembled bracket into original boot brackets, drill and rivet to hold the centre piece inside the tube.
7. drill angle and use as many rivets as you like to fix angles to the lid itself
8. tighten bolt tight now to sandwich the nylon washers(this will allow you to set the lid at whatever angle you like
9. remove the remaining original bolts from the lid, and swing lid by applying pressure to the centre of the lid (boot garnish)
10. and your done, you must reinstall the bolts before closing the lid or else the lid will not close properly and may fly off when driving
Note: this mod was done on a vr/vs commodore and sizes may be different

Looks very much like a DIY I've seen on AusMagnas..
Nice effect it made on the car mate, well done.
ahh excellent
myt try it when i have time on my hands =D
good to know it wont leak when it rains...bit afraid of the audio gear getting wet
Ive hade this mod on my last 2 cars the last 18 months, no dramas with water. Did mine a bit different though. I used 3" strap hinges. I like your way better though, it looks a bit stronger.
nice job, and looks great, but how would it go instead of having to put the blot back in, maybee use a longer piece of angle, with like a pin and clip through it when your goin to close it, it would hold in in normal posistion, but be easily and quickly removable, anyway, i might jus try it, im wreckin mah vh soon, so ill give it a go on that b4 i turf it lol.
I will take a few photos of mine tomorrow and put it up if I remember.
awesome mod man cant wait 2 do it to my stato when i get it

that really is simple, great write-up.
You could probably look at adding a second catch at the top of the boot, if you know what I mean, that could lock the boot closed so you don't have to put the bolts back in. Also you could probably find two small gas struts and attach them so they hold the boot steady at the angle you want.
You've given me many ideas.![]()
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
hey mate
top looking mod, and great write up. will be trying this soon, but can we pretend i'm an idiot...
not sure what you mean by the bolts. why must they be removed in the first place/then replaced? not having a go or anything, but i dnt understand it.
also, does the boot stay open in that position on it's own, or does it need a pole to hold it up?
cheers mate

The VZ is here! About time!
the bolts have to go back in to secure the boot back onto the boot hinges, or else when your driving it MIGHT fly off and during the rain water can leak into the boot.
Top thread.
I've only seen the dodgy hinged version (you know who you are UNKNOWN lol)

-terry GOOD WRITE UP
well i have just been down to the local metal fab joint, i was goin to get it made up like the thread said, but when i found out that having the nylon bush made would cost $80 i scrapped the idea. the bloke i was talking to came up with an idea that removed the welded pipe from the equation. now, i assume it wont look quite as nice as the one at the top of the page, its only going to cost me $50 to have the lenghts made for me. the anlge ill have to do myself.
if it works ill get some pics. i pick it up at 3 o'clock. fingers crossed
If it aint broke, dont fix it.
Any updates bittsa?
theres a person on ebay selling a few diff ways to do this.. the easiest and cheapest way being 2 strap hinges and 2 slide locks was gutted when i seen this thread considering i paid for it just last week but im still gonna go with the other way alot easier and cheaper for me
