I was wondering if you had taken photos and stuff of your doing that, cos i heard the black parts are harder to get off than the badges, and i don't want to get stuck somewhere along the line and end up scratching my paintwork.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Hey mitch,
The black strips are a pain in the arse to remove. Thats not to say that its imposible though! I ripped mine off with my hands and it left a very thick hard dry eurithane glue. Its prety much cement!! You need to use what called a 'caramel wheel' to remove this. A caramel wheel basically goes into the end of your drill and it spins around slowly rubbing the glue/cement off, the caramel wheel is a semi hard rubber and you will need more than one to complete your car on both sides. I contacted a crash supply shop and got them for $13 each.
I did one side (about 10 hours work and 2 caramel wheels) of my car and i could see that when i pulled the strips off the car i had actually pulled somepaint off with it. Because my car is 2pack silver paint it showed up and i wasnt very happy. I ended up having the entire car resprayed due to someone keying it so it didnt really matter.
If i took more time in getting the strips off by using a heat gun and only pulling on the strip slowly i wouldnt have damaged the paint at all, i was just in a rush which was a bad idea. Be prepared to spend a month of weekends just slowly working away at it with your caramel wheel and you should be ok.
I found using the caramel wheel 'dry' with no chemicals like metho etc worked much better.
Good luck with it, hope this helps

thanx for the help, ill try get some pics when i get around to doing it might be a few weeks yet and ill make sure its well documented so it might help others in the quest for a clean car

How's this for odd... When I bought my vx S2 acclaim, there were the strips on the doors on one side, but not on the other.... obvious sign of a rebuild after a prang? (only done 83000 early this yr when I bought it) or did the acclaims just come like this? Seems odd.
At least being an acclaim they were painted the same colour as the car, so they dont' stand out too much. Still, will give removing them a go tomorrow with the above techniques. Will try to take photos as I go.
Cheers for the ideas (didn't think metho would be worth a shot)
