I had the exact same problem. I used a screwdriver around the clamp that grabs onto the car when the door is closed and turned that and then used a hell of a lot of pulling. It did come loose but you needed the door lock/clamp thingy to be in the right spot to do it. Was a bitch to do and was scary as hell cause i didnt want to spend money by taking it to holden or anyone but didnt want to have my car always unlocked

Hey mate great thread really helped me when fixing my drivers door mirror although I found a few more screws I THINK were not mentioned. I had 7 screws underneath the trim, the 4 which you mentioned and the another 3 were screwed in horizontally next to the other screws. (I can get photos if you would like)

Thanx heaps for the write up

Thanks a bunch for this guide mate. I need to remove the door trim to replace the speaker on the driver's door. Is there any guide on how remove old speakers and wire up new ones? I'm also thinking of sound-proofing the doors, know of any good materials?
The only Exec in Saudi that's now properly badged!

Pretty straight forward to wire in the newies. There is a wiring diagram for the vz on here, search and it'll come up and that'll give you your wire colours which makes the job simple. Depending on the depth of the new speaker you may have to remove the pod and cut a bit off the back of it, but this is also very easy. I've only used dynamat xtreme but it's very good stuff.

Just want to say thanks... because of this thread, all my doors now have new Alpine's in under 20mins per door (except for the first one, about 45mins to make sure I didn't miss anything). Great descriptions and great pics... thanks heaps.

For the above question of the door lock staying down, there is a super simple fix, use your finger to 'unlock' the door latch (where the door grabs the body). It will be closed, usually due to sitting the door shut to check speaker clearances etc. Same if the fly-wire door on the house won't close. Then, lift the lock up and wha lah!
