How To: replace accelerater cable VN/VP/VR
ok if you have a frayed or broken throttle cable {picture one}this is how you replace it. tools needed are a shifter, and a screwdriver. first, you open the bonnet and undo the two nuts holding the threaded plastic bit to the throttle plate. picture two.
next you pull the plastic piece to the left so the wire comes out of the throttle plate and undo the end of the cable from the throttle body.
trace the cable back to the firewall and pull the plug away from the firewall. picture three.
now you go inside the cabin. you have to remove the fuse and relay cover by taking out the three round clips holding it into place. now under neath, there is a black guard that has grooves in it. there are 4 or 5 screws that are holding it in place. these were only finger tight on all 4 cars i did but only need a screwdriver to undo.
i couldnt get any pictures of this step. there is a round clip holding the wire to the accelerator. the clip unclips from the rear of the bar. u have to push the tabs together and push the clip out towards you. then move the wire around the hole until you find the break which it should be on the left side. remove from the bar, go into the engine bay and pull the cable out. it should pull straight out easily.
now to put the new cable in simply reverse the steps. feed the wire in through the firewall, go into the cabin and and push the clip in through the hole in the bar from the cabin side and replace the black guard with the screws and the fuse covering.
go into the engine bay, rehook the cable into the throttle body and replace the plastic threaded tube into the throttle plate. roughly adjust the nuts then start the car up and fine tune the idle by moving the two nuts either way.
take for a test drive to insure it all works fine and thats it. process should only take 20-30 mins. have fun
