Before you start you need to jack up the front of your car by the middle of the crossmember and securely fit jack stands under the chasis in case the jack fails.
1.remove front wheels
2.undo the lower balljoint nut and disconnect by swiftly hitting the lower control arm with a hammer closest to the balljoint,do not hit the balljoint itself or its thread!. this will shock the thread to the balljoint and cause it to 'fall' out. not likely that easy though.
3.remove your brake caliper by using a 15 and 16 mm spanner.
4.open your bonnet and undo the strut tower nuts
5.the assembly will fall out.
6.go to supercheap and buy a pair of spring compresors, its alot easier if you have a compressor and gun but a ratchet will do the job
7.fit the spring compressors horizontally oposite each other on the spring, making sure the compressors are snug in the coil up the top to reduce the risk of the compressors flying off.
8.use your ratchet/gun to evenly do up the compressors until the coil spring is loose in the strut.
9.remove strut top bearing plate by removing nut and replaceing the plate if nessesary.
10.remove spring and shock.
11.before putting new shock in put a couple of ml's of oil in the bottom of the strut assembly.
12.replace shock, spring and replace bearing plate securely.
13.undo the spring compressor evenly until they fall off.
14.replacement is same as removal.
this was really helpful, although i changed my whole 'struts'
also wuldnt it be a bit help ful to buy the spring compressor first then jack ur car up?
so what type of car is that?
