Post up some pics of your brush work eheh.
gday all
Have not been on for a long while or given any updates on progress.
In short ive nearly finished, with some minor detailing to go and source some new bumpers and do them as well.
The biggest difference I noted was the mixture did not work well for me, I had to thin it out with about an extra 30 - 40 mls of thinners. Possible the climate in Perth was the cause (warm and dry). Plus the colour I chose was not very opaque, so took many coats to get coverage. After choosing this found some reference that the red colour is not opaque and will require more coats, doh. Never mind done now. I did get better along the way as the first guard I tackled took over 10 coats but toward the end had this down to about 7.
Have attached some picts.

Very nice mate! Same red i am using too. Although i reckon ill have it a few months and go black..
Oh not bad! Pretty thick first coat. Will turn out awesome if you prep it all right between coats. Although did you add metalic flecks?
just a thought, could you mix two of the colours together or would they have some sort of reaction to each other? im not exactly the authority on paint...
just thinking that purple might be a future possibility...
Yeah can mix as long as there the same paints.
i see 1 problem with taking off the gaurds and mettalic paint.
If the guards are painted flat along the ground they will be different colours, because when the guard is upright and mounted on the car graviity acutally makes the metalic flakes shine in different directions as the paint sets. If that makes any sense, so it is better to paint the guards either upright on a stand or on the car
if they are phsical marks you will want to block sand before the next coat so the marks dont keep building up with paint once you have a run or imperfections they jusy get bigger the more coats you apply
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Looking good there mate. If your getting roller marks have a go at thinning the paint a tad more. What that will do is allow you to "work" the paint for longer and it should also help it self-level in which case you wont have to roll those sections again and cause roller marks. Hope that makes sence.

just started painting another paddock basher using this method.
once again top points to wilso for bringing this to everyone's attention.
New pics 2nd coat before sanding.. going to be a bit of sanding this round.. Also stencil marked out the front guards ready to install VY SS flutes..
The bumper isnt being used nor are the boot and rear quarter windows, swapping them over to my donor vp ones (not bubbled), the metalic flakes look awesome very happy with them. Ill post up more pics in full sun after next coat.
guys im downn to the last leg but have hit a snag.
the gloss off the red is nothing like the black.
can i buff this paint or will it wither and die on me?
any tips?
cheers guys
How fine did you last sand? And buffing shouldnt be an isssue, as long as you let it harden long enough.
TVR i know ur car is a do up sell thing, but how much did you sand between coats? The pics of your first coat i myself would have sanded it back to use as an undercoat.
My 2nd coat after a sand. Sanded back to where in happy to do a 3rd coat.
uh 800 after the first coat, 1500 thereafter.
final few coats were 2000
just looking to buff the little bits of fluff and dust and crap that have stuck to my final coat.
according to the boys at paint place it should be fine to buff after 48hours as long as its done nice and slow.
Got any pics kane?
