what do you use to remove the bolt holding the steering wheel on after you have the airbag pad off?

A 17mm socket wrench does the trick. undo it one turn then wiggle the wheel loose before taking the bolt out entirely, as it can be tight and the bolt stops it from flying off when it comes loose.
