VN 3.8L V6 intermitent cutting out
I have problems recently with my engine cutting out while driving.
It just stops but the ignition is on.
If I turn ignition off and restart all is well.
I have checked the relays and fuses to see if loose.
Any ideas? :b:

Spark Plugs, leads, etc. Sounds annoying, don't really know, my friend had a VL that did similar things to that and that was the oxygen sensor. Another thing to check is the Engines main earth connection, if that is loose that could explain your car just stopping.

Check the wiring loom comming from the bottom of your coil packs, mate of mine got 2 crank angle sensors, and a harmonic balancer changed with the same problem still there, had a look ended up being the pins and sockets in that plug on the bottom of the coil packs. It was sending out some really bogus codes too!

I had the same problem with my VR motor in my HILUX (since sold) It was the module under the 3 "spark packs" (I don't know the terminology) there is a circuitboard under there that cracks, I replaced mine and problem solved...

Total stall?
If the cutout is total (all 6 cylinders at once) it is probably not the coil pack. Because each coil runs 2 cylinders it is unlikely for them to all cut out at once. My old VN Calais did this from time to time and it turned out to be lack of voltage from the security module (behind the glove box) to the ECU in the kick panel. If the security was disabled (with the key in the glove box) it never cut out. The cure was to supply 12 volts via a separate wire to the ECU. If the security was disabled the central locking did not word but it was a good test.
Hope this helps, Steve

i had a simular prob with my (vr ) and was the crank angle sensor, it tell's
the engine what pistons to fire and if that is faulty/damaged that might
be causing your problems you currently getting.
i hope this might help let me know how get on

wont be the crank angle sensors if it restarts immediately they normally need to cool down b4 the engine will restart

could be that u need ur injectors cleaned..... my VP had this problem, took it to 10 different places or so and they told me different things.....
after doing all plugs and leads, map sensor, checked the power to the ECU, and ten million other things, the problem was STILL there....
turns out i needed my injectors cleaned, does it rough idle at all before it cuts out?
if it doesnt then it could be one of many problems, possibly the ECU has a lack of power going to it, could be ur leads n plugs, could be map sensor, could be altinator, could be anything really, sorry pal cant really help u out on this one
ur best option i reckon is to take it to a holden dealer, which is what i did, once they fix sumthin that they say is wrong with it and it doesnt fix the problem (even though u paid for it), rant and rave untill they agree to fix the problem for no charge, they should agree to it ammeadiatly but i almost had a punch on with the dude at the service centre on keilor rd, niddrie coz he said he wouldnt touch it if they dont know whut was wrong, but jus persist and tell em u told me that was the problem and i paid to get it fixxed, now its still happening so fix the ****in thing! lol worked for me!

VN 3.8L V6 intermitent cutting out
Dunno if this would apply in the case of a VN but I had a VK injected and had the same prob, I tried everything from plugs to leads and injectors and even called it names and threatened it with a Ford. Culprit in the end was the internal fuel pump in the tank and I tell ya its probly still in orbit

Have you checked for codes? I'm still betting on the loom comming out of the coil packs, it drops the signal to the crank angle sensor and thows out
sh*#loads of fault codes.

I had same problem with my VN, you may already have solved your problem, but others may like to know.
Mine would die without any warning and at the same place a few times (spookey) in the beginning it would start straight away, then I had to wait longer and longer. Short term solution was to pour water on crank sensor and of it would go again (carried a lot of water to get home). I pulled of harmonic balancer and checked sensor, it had some markings on it ( touching the triggers). (Bloody mechanic) Put in a new one and made sure it was adjustet properly. All fixed
Morale of the storie is, if pouring water on sensor fixes it short term, you know the problem.
