motor making ticking sound

hi.just curious if anyone knows what would cause my motor to make a ticking sound when its cold.It goes away after a few minutes....my car is a 2002vx ss.done 80k.........cheers

? metal expansion ?

Could be a couple of things..

1) exhaust leak at headers which when metal heats it goes away

or

2) Good old GenIII Piston Slap.... What oil do you use? some say that using Castrol Magnetec gets rid off the cold start noise.......

Its an ls1 most of em make noises i have just switched to castrol magnatec and mine is heaps quieter.

Yep, if holden's 304/8 was an alloy block, they would have been alot noisier also, people forget how much alloy resonate's. To me it just sound's like a bit of cold start slap. I have been using valvoline synth in my now departed SS used to knock for about 10 second's than stop. Unless it is using oil, it's usually all ok.

Change the Idler Pulley Bearing.

They run out of lube and start ticking till warmed up.

There is a million suggestions from people, and they all seem to say its serious.

Try this.
