A man goes to the cinema. After his eyes become accustomed to
the dark, he notices a dog sitting in the chair next to him. As the
film progresses, the dog reacts appropriately to every scene. For
laughter he wags his tail and barks, for sadness he drops his ears
and whimpers, and for violence he growls and bares his teeth. At the
end of the movie, he stands on his hind legs and applauds with his
front paws, barks gleefully, and wags his tail.
The man leans across the dog’s seat toward a man who was
apparently the dog’s owner and says, “Wow! That was a great film!
What an intelligent dog you have there! Frankly, I’m amazed. He
seemed to enjoy the movie as much as anyone.”
“I’m just as amazed as you are!” replied the owner. “He hated the
book!”
