It's a joke cause it'll never happen...

I don't mind it actually. If they brought it here i'd want them to offer the turbo V6 with all wheel drive.
If that's it, I hope it doesn't happen.
Only if its rear wheel drive.
It already being sold in the UK as a vauxhall, but I doubt that they will rename it as a Torana.

As it's actually an Opel, the Insignia might come to Australia under that name, not as a Vauxhall or Holden. So, you might see it, but it won't be called Torana.
Opel are coming to Australia soon as a stand alone brand completely separate to Holden. They are aiming for a higher end VW/Volvo level in the marketplace but as Holden own the Torana nameplate I can't see them handing it over to a competitor even though they have the same ultimate owners. Both businesses are completely autonomous.
Torana's biggest chance was with what we now call the Cruze which is more or less a world wide nameplate. I am happy with the name being retired and should only ever be contemplated for a small/medium RWD model along the lines of the BMW 3 series.

God I hope not...that's bloody awful.
I agree completely.
And it should have a V8 option if that was to happen.should only ever be contemplated for a small/medium RWD model along the lines of the BMW 3 series.
If the Torana name has to be ressurected, they could at least model it on the original, ie: the new Mustang or Camaro, instead of just sticking the badge on whatever model they can pick out of the GM line up.
I took these at the Melbourne motor show in 2003. Holden factory concept Torana. I like it a lot, though I think the white interior is a bit overboard.
I remember it was RWD, and not a 4 banger. Might have been a v6 I cant remember, maybe even an 8. Its not quite as small as it looks in the photos.
Badged as a Torana, in this hatchback body, I think it would have sold well. You can even see similarities with the old toranas. Another nice car that never was.

The holden concept was wicked a mini VE hatchback twin turbo v6, still waiting for that ttv6 to go on sale, pull your finger out holden.

Dear god no, I hate that ####in thing...
I'm fine if they took the Torana back to its roots of the LC/J performance RWD 6 cyl. You could argue the HB 4 cyl Brabham's were where it started but I think the XU-1's is the real start of the Torana becoming a cult classic for most people.
The motorshow Torana was all about testing the new design of the VE on the public. It was never a in serious consideration for production.

I can see the obvious styling resemblances, but what makes this car different is the hatchback. A VE hatchback would be pretty cool.. 6L 6spd Torana SLR6000 ?
Of course the interior styling is disgusting, you would have to stick with something more conventional like the VE interior.
A Torana was a Torana, it should be left in motoring History. If a model continued on and evolved, then fine, but when a vehicle is discontinued, let it be. Like the Monaro. Call it whatever you like, but it's not a Monaro. Also the new GT's, manufacturers should stop trying to resurrect a name for emotional value and try to milk it fo sales.
I think it's a shame certain design cues from the Torana showcar didn't make it to the VE. I absolutely hate the front guard flares on the VE - they have always seemed far too big. The Torana has much more neatly flared guards that could still have housed decent wheel widths. The recent "reveal" in Wheels of the VF had front flares greatly reduced, more like those on the Torana, and I thought it looked much better. Hope they make it to the VF.
What's wrong with carrying a name on over the years, even if there is a break between models? "Mustang" has been going since 1964 and some of them in the 80's were bloody awful, gutless, ugly looking things that should never have carried the name. Camaro likewise. The Charger nameplate has been revived after some years in the wilderness. Retro design probably has more appeal to the American market because the early muscle cars were truly iconic, and looked like they were designed to be performance cars from the start. We, on the other hand, with our much smaller market, modified four door sedans for our icons, or adapted two door coupes from those sedans. Their shapes from the 60's and early 70's don't translate as well as a retro.
I can't really imagine a 2011 Torana XU-1, with design cues from the LC or LJ, as a retro. Their most distinctive feature was the protruding centre peak on the nose - apart from that and the longer wheelbase, the design was just a re-hash and update of the HB Torana. Hardly iconic stuff for a true retro. The name could be re-used - in fact, I think it would have been better than Cruze, because we had that dopey Suzuki Ignis/Cruze a few years back and that name should have been ignored for the Australian market, even though it's "Cruze" everywhere else the car is marketed. So what if it's FWD - the market it's aimed at doesn't know the difference or give a damn which wheels propel the car.
The new one would have to be a smaller version of the current large holden, like the LC/LJ looked like a baby HQ so the new one looking like a smaller VE or whatever next commodore model would fit nicely, I just don't think there would be much of a market for it TBH it would be a performance oriented niche car. marketed against cars like 370z wrx and evo it just wouldn't work with the small volumes they sell.
