i've heard that if you start asking of the officers number etc etc they get pretty defensive. but i'd rather just not speed so they dont have a reason to pull me up

Red face I agree with Patrio7

Let's start a movement. Everyone drive at the speed limit. That way the Police won't meet the their targets and won't raise enough revenue for their Christmas Party.
Don't know if it's the same everywhere but in Perth people complain loudly about Multinovas being used as revenue raisers only.
The mentality does not grasp the simple solution ie: no speed = no fine

I disagree.. When I had neons on my car, I got pulled over quite a bit.. They look around at your car, check your rego, run your license and plates through their computer, bretho you and get you to open your bonnet looking for something they can defect..

This, when I'm travelling right on the limit..

But most cops won't car if you start writing what they say down. They're accountable in court, the vast majority of coppers won't say stupid stuff that could be used against them in court. They generally don't say much anyway..

As for asking them for their badge number. It'll be written on whatever they give you, ie speeding ticket or canary.. So most of them will give it to you and just look for more things to do you for..

Unless the cop is actually in the wrong. He won't care about those things.. He'll just think you're a smart arse and look even harder at your car.

sounds like a good way to attract attention to yourself & probably end up with a shitload more fines than if you sat there & just accepted you done something wrong & got caught

i know every time i've been caught speeding thats what i've done & its been ok.
mates have been smartasses & have ended up having their cars defected.
it seems if you want to be a smartass they'll go out of their way to find other things & they win in the end because you get a fine that you have to pay anyway.

so i could almost guarantee it'd be the cop pissing you off in the end

Just because you have been a tool and got caught doing the wrong thing you shouldn't take it out on the cop. Maybe you should take out your pen and paper and write yourself a little reminder not to speed. Cops are just regular people there to do a job so just cop it sweet accept that you f^&ked up and get on with it. I also agree with greengopher, if you are going to be a smartarse chances are you won't be the one having the last laugh.

I have yet to see an embarrassed Police-person........
It was funny after the cop defecte me for (seatbelts do not retract quick enough), when he went, he went to turn on the light and the drivers side light didnt turn on, So i went over to his window and told him his headlight was out. He didnt believe me, told me not to be upset just bcoz my car got defected.
It wasnt too dark, but it was dark enough to need atleast ur parkers on.

quickest way to piss of a cop over here is just step out of your car!

The first thing I do when I get pulled over is to climb out with keys in one hand and licence in the other. The coppers have always liked that, I have had fines reduced if not disappear at all with a stern warning. I've also never met a pissed off cop because of it..until i came to the states. I got pulled over because I accidentally made an illegal turn. I pull over and the cops jumps out of his car, I grab my keys and licence, step out and the copper immediatly screams at me to put my hands on my head as he points a gun at me! After some real quick talking and apologising he realised I made no problems and I explained that it was customary for us to get out of a car as a sign of respect to the officer in Australia. He let me go completly and laughed his arse off to his patrol car....I climbed into mine shaking like a leaf!

But, I still everyone in Australia should get out of their car when pulled over. If the cops has to get out of his car in the wet and stand on the edge of the highway or freeway because you were a tool....then you should get out too! Hell, I even had one fine deleted because I started to hold a torch onto his ticket book so he can write me the damn ticket!
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

Yeah watch out for the officers in the states, they really do get jumpy when you get out. Although you would imagine it to be easier to just shoot the cop as he came to your window.

If you do get out of your vehicle remember to always move to the back of your car. If you were pulled over chances are you will be standing on the side of either a street or highway, not a very safe place to lounge around and have a chat. If you were pulled over for speeding they have absolutely no need to go to the front anyway they only need to speak to you. If you got pulled over for a RBT or defect then it's also best to go to the back of the car.

I remember once back when I was about 20, I was driving fast, not overly fast but definately above the limit, down a back road and as I passed a house I saw a cop car in the driveway, looked back and saw them jumping into the car. Now my old car was pretty loud when under WOT so she was definately putting up a scream. So anyway I keep driving, slowed down of course, but kept on going as if I had done nothing wrong. They came up fairly quick but no sirens or lights.

Pulled me over about a kilometer or so down the road. I left my car idling and got out and wandered down to the back. Officers come up to me and give me a speech about how I must have been speeding since they could hear the car from inside the house. So I explained to them that yeah I'd opened it up and was listening to the exhaust, I'd just fitted it and was taking it for a test run. They asked to hear for themselves so I walked up and stabbed the gas, car roared, cop jumps has a laugh then begins to explain noise laws and the such.

I listened to him, not saying a word, he started writing up a defect notice for excessive noise but then decided not to for whatever reason. We had a chat, laughed some more about him jumping then they got back into their car, wished me a good day and drove off. Now there wasn't any real point to this story but just remember that if they pull you over, chances are you're probably doing something wrong. Their job is a fairly hard one and personally I wouldn't want it.

Be nice to the police, one day when you're in trouble they may just save your life.

lol i would agree with the whole getting out of the car thing but me n 2 mates where in my mates et n we had a battery issue so we ere driving at about 6 pm with the lights off a cop saw it and pulled us over we immediatluy got out of the car after opening the boot to investigate the battery issue from the subwoofers see if there was a leak all of a sudden he gets back in his car and reverses at about 40km/h about 30m and gets on the speaker to put our hands on our head and stay where we were wasnt the coolest experience, after explaining the situation we got advised to tow the car, we said we would then when he left we went on our merry way lol

if you dont want cops to hassle you then dont ever take any friends for rides... 1 as soon as a cop sees more than 1 person in the car they think heres trouble and pull you over.

2nd when you are pulled over your ****head mates say somthing stupid thinking they are tough and bam there goes your ride licence and money lol

    thats my 2 cents

I agree with getting out of your car, it is courtesy and alot of the time it actually reduces fines or removes them with a warning. Biggest prblem with australians these days seems to be we are too arrogant. My grandfather from England made this clear on his last visit, couldnt beleive how different this country was becoming in regards to our attitude.

When you visit a country a long time ago, then come back, things like this are noticeable. It only takes a few people to set your vision on a majority. Like almost anything

never knew the step out of the car thing.

i've only been pulled up twice,

once for doing 75 in a 60 zone in my grandfathers old xf wagon, breathalised license checked, let off.

once for RBT which i was ticked off at as the left turn into the servo was blocked, i needed to get to that servo because my rear tire was going down.

but again i save the hooning for my xbox. love thrashing my lil 350z in forza ^_^ true it just isnt the same as feelign the g-forces for rear but meh. i sure as heck dont own a race car or a proper license for that so why do it. never know what might happen if i lost control.

i'll be damned if i stuff my car up and insurance wont cover it [which has happened thanks to a car cutting me off and then doing a runner.]
