Can't wait to pick up my pre-ordered Wii on Thursday

PS3 is still ~102 days away

They called me today to tell me they're doing a midnight launch, may or may not do it

    Default Wii

My son in the US tells me that the Wii is excellent, although it has to be, as it is competing against an entrenched Sony and Microsoft market. Now we have to see if the game makers push it to the limits, if it will make a viable competition against the big boys. I still think the name sux. The name Wii is too close to Poo.

Yeah, the Wii wont compete directly with MS or Sony, it will be like saying that Scrabble is competing with mousetrap.
1 is fun without seriousness, and the other is seriousness without fun, yet they are both games loved by many.

My mate who is in upper management at EB games says that he'll be surprised if we get the PS3 before August next year. That march launch date certainly isn't set in stone and sony keep pushing it back regularly.

    EB are tossers.
I was at west lakes EB listening to the store guy there telling a customer why they should wait for the PS3.

"its got better graphics... and its more powerful... and its got some special disc drive with the new disc format which will replace DVDs... umm... umm.. i cant think of the name... blue something..."

    Idiot.

I dont understand how they get any business when they sell all their console games at $20 more than any other store.
Hell.. i went to David Jones and bought a 360 game at normal price that was $40 lower than EB.

They arent owned by apple. This video was created by a mac users website to spoof both consoles.

Haha... If the apple was included in the comparison, it would be sitting in the corner with a video camera alone because nothing would work with it except multimedia software.

    Piece of crap.

Meanwhile, the PC is sitting in therapy with a blue screen of death...

Screw the PS3, that thing has been delayed so many times its rediculous. Wii looks pretty cool, but I do like my old XBox, and would rather upgrade to the 360.

Theres only 3 reasons ever that I would buy a PS3.

    1) Blu-Ray (its a cheap console/Next Gen DVD combo, considering most BluRay or HD DVD players are $1000 on their own)

    2) Gran Turismo (yet to be beaten driving game)

    3) Formula 1 titles, not yet available on Xbox.

I'm not going to support Blu-Ray, I'm hoping that HD-DVD wins the next generation DVD format war, but it's going to be at least 5 years before a clear winner comes out - hey they might both lose, and we might skip it all together and have moved onto getting movies in other formats like flash memory or something.

Look at Sony's history of failed formats: Betamax, Minidisc, Atrac compression, Universal Media Disc (PSP discs), would you really trust them again?

Just something - The HD-DVD player add-on for the XBOX 360 works directly with Windows and Mac, no need for drivers or anything, just plug it in and you can watch HD-DVD movies, and it's probably the cheapest drive in existance at the moment - and the 360 + HD-DVD drive add on works out to being about or just slightly cheaper than a PS3 with Blu-Ray.

FYI the video was created by and appeared on the TV Channel G4 which took over TechTV and turned it into a video games channel

Im getting a Wii, i simply dont have $1000 for a console and then games ontop of that. $400 including 2 games seems alot better to me. Thats just my 2 cents.

Well I didnt want a 360 either.. until launch day... I just couldnt resist buying one and luckily there was like 3 left at my local Harveys when I went in there.
Now I have 10 games, spent countless amounts and hours and never looked back.. i daresay it will be the same with PS3... i dont want the console, but GT4HD and BRD will win me over.

Sony lost out with Betamax Juzza, because those who supportted VHS marketed it better. Betamax was and still is far superior to VHS and S-VHS. I'm not sure what to back in terms of the next gen DVD. Think I'll have to read up on it more.

LMAO have you ever used a cd or a 3.5" floppy in the old days (both invented by sony). You used these I agree psp discs were a very bad idea. I have a psp and I think it's disks are friggin stupid. Sony also released dvd+r media which isn't as popular but still in about half the devices. I'll wait till they release GT 5, GTA 4 and at least a second release of the ps3. Sony always have a sh!t run with version 1 of anything. Also you will never see flash media used as a permanent storage device. Because of their inability to hold data. Throw a cd in water grab it out let it dry and you can get the data off. Same cannot be said for flash media. First few runs of flash drives would loose data if they got knocked. I think we need something like blue ray but the size of a mini cd (8cm)
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?

Excellent points, I'm glad someone here knows stuff! Completely forgot about the good they've done, but you have to admit they've taken a big risk competing with the HD-DVD standard, it's all about making money off licensing the technology I guess UMD discs were such a failure the movies distributed on them were silently discontinued which isn't cool

Also true about flash, might be something else though.. perhaps a push less in quality of the movies but downloading them for example, legally.. anything's possible in 5 years

After buying a nintendo ds for my daughter for christmas this year and having a little trial play (just to check it was workin ok )I was really impressed, more so than with the psp. The ds seemed really unique and the psp just seemed like a just a mini ps2. So for that reason I think we will get a Wii, that and I've grown up with nintendos so I'm probably a bit biased.

I used to love anything sony, but piece by piece I have realised that anything with a sony badge is a piece of crud.

    My speakers - Crud
My old 5.1 system, faulty lens, dodgy equaliser, high wattage but low volume limit - whats the point? - CRUD
PS2 - faulty laser, faulty controller, didnt play PS1 games well. - CRUD
    PSP - CRUD
    DVD player - CRUD
HDD MP3 player - buttons cracked and faulty (defect) menu kept crashing 1 repairer in whole state, and had to get my reseller to use muscle to actually get sony to fix it - CRUD
Car amp, overheated and blew up running rated load in normal weather in normal installation - CrUD
12 inch Subwoofers - high power figures, poor sensitivity - CRUD.

P.S. work filter blocks me uploading text with crap too many times.. hence crud all the time.
hmmm... thats all i can think of that i have personally owned at the moment.
The only good sony product i ever owned was the original playstation with GT1 on it.

Im happy to support blu ray if it ends on top, not because it is sony... I would certainly make sure that i buy a non sony player.
That said, i would like to see HD DVD on top because thats the format i prefer, but i just dont see it happening.
