Finally got to talk to a turbo driver who was visiting a neighbor of my daughter. He had a rather nice looking Skyline R32, and as he approached down the street I heard the show-off (sorry, "blow off") valve popping an whooshing at every gear change, and he was only maybe revving it up as if normally driving. While we were checking out under the bonnet, I asked him why he had the blow-off valve set so low? Surely it was meant to bleed off pressure when you were really going for it, and in normal driving it wouldn't go off...the pressures shouldn't be high enough? Isn't it just bleeding pressure out into the atmosphere at too low a rev range and making him lose power? I could be wrong....please correct me...
Anyway, he was puzzled..."a friend" who "knew everything about turbo's" had set the thing up for him. "As long as it sounds cool, so what if it's a bit flat when you try to overtake something quick out on the highway...you just line 'em up from a kilometer or so back..." was the ending summation of our enlightening conversation....![]()
