Apprenticeship
Courier
Bludge
Try and get in with a group training scheme for your apprenticeship. They put you on for the 4yrs and hire you out to plumbers (sparkies or woteva). Sure you might chop n change companies a lot, but your always guaranteed a job/pay for the 4yrs.
I'm almost into my 4th year of plumbing in the group training scheme. I've worked for almost 20 different companies in the last 3yrs, lasting from as little as a day position to my last one which was almost 2yrs. When the financial thing hit apprentices were all losing they're jobs. The company I'd been hired out too lost work and after almost 2yrs had to drop me, I spent a month out of work whilst MY boss ( from the group scheme) tried to find me another spot and I got paid the whole time.
As to pay. It really depends on wether your with an EBA company or not. I did the majority of my 1st year on the EBA $10p/hr, but went into domestic $6p/hr a few weeks before going 2nd yr. Upon starting my 2nd year I went back into EBA $18p/hr (including site allowances). I then went back to domestic $10p/hr and into my 3rd year $13p/hr. My recent position still 3rd year was EBA, including site allowances I was on $25p/hr, clearing over $800 a week after tax. They ran out of work, so now I'm getting paid to wait for another spot
lol, rambled on a bit there, srryhope it makes sense.
Only problem is there is **** all chance of getting into the group training/all trades system over 21 for the same reasons purple monkey dishwasher posted earlier

well the trades are still hour based arn't they ?? well the sparky one is in nz and im sure we use the same system as u guys as our electrical regulations are joint as/nz . and we still have to do 8000 hours
so at 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year is 2080 but then u got to take holidays away so thats still 4 years unless u do lots of overtime![]()
not for me it wasn't im a plasterer and i was signed out 3 months into my fourth year after all my tafe was completed and logbooks and everything were passed

Are you a private apprentice or with a group training scheme?

mate apprenticeship is the way to go
Plumbers make good coin...
Do courier because thats also classed as bludging because your getting payed to drive around all day - its hardly work
I just got into this and its bloody awesome i tell u hahaha
then do an apprenticechip after a while - you might not get payed much but think in a few years you will be earning triple that and loaded
Worth the wait imo
if you dont have a missus or whatever,
go through the army mate,
best mate is a helicopter technician (plumbimg would be hard to get into as is carpentry since there are so many looking for them) and he's in training earning $45k p/year..
the army apprenticeship will be harder but hell worth it.
more moolah
More moolah but many bad points with the army. For example:
The training is bloody hard and to get in you need to be extremely fit and your subject to military laws so they can bash you and whatever (id hate this sh*t)
The army is a life commitment and if you join you probably will be with them for the rest of your life and rule out that option before you go ahead. Do you wanna be in the army all your life or not? And the wage is actually crap for the first few years its something like $40,000 or less
yeah just dont go army for crying out loud - its hard work for not enough pay, you get bashed buy gay camo guys and u end up doing a life commitment
Not my thing at all - and probz not yours either - just do a trade apprenticeship and start counting the money in about 4 years haha
wherry u got no ****in idea on millitary life do you?? bash you? since when? this isnt the 1940's! its not a life commitment the army will only sign you up for 4 years initial service then you resign if you want to for like 18 months at a time... and as for the pay to work ratio... a little hard work never hurt anyone, the pay is only crap during recruits and initial training which varies depending on what job you decide to do
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Well i have a friend in the army and if you go on their site it says on the form "by signing up you agree to use of military laws" or something which means they can do whatever the f**k they want to you and you can do jack to stop them.
If your not working hard enough then they do what they want - my mate would know hes doing sniping and stuff and they do this crap. You might resign but its not really that simple as resign and goodbye. Alot of people have told me its like a life commitment. Well i just hate it myself so yeah. I just reckon he should do a trade instead
well take it from someone who is in the millitary... its not what you think its like... yes you fall under millitary law but that has nothing to do with how your treated... infact they cant treat you like that at all otherwise they get in major shit... its called equaity and diversity, google it![]()
