Absolutely. No doubt about it.
Sure. But only if I was sure I could save them.
Hmm...maybe. Depends if it was the dog or the budgie.
Nope. They are on their own.
No. It's ridiculous to risk your own life.
This is Quoted from the Daily Mercury..
And Im interested to the see the JC's member votes
MORE than 50 per cent of pet owners are willing to put their life on the line for their four-legged friends, a new study has found.
The New Zealand-based poll found that 58 per cent of people would return to a danger zone rather than allow their pets to perish.
Steve Glassey, a distance education student at Charles Sturt University in NSW, said 99 per cent of people deem their pet to be a family member.
"They've got quite a strong bond so that means in a disaster they're quite less likely to abandon them if they're told to do so," said Mr Glassey, a former officer for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Mr Glassey conducted the online poll after discovering a lack of provisions for pets in emergency shelters was one of the reasons people were reluctant to evacuate their homes when Hurricane Katrina tore through the US in 2005.
"A lot of people failed to evacuate because they couldn't take their pets," he told AAP.
Mr Glassey found about 80 per cent of the 92 people he polled in Wellington would be more likely to leave their homes if evacuation centres catered for furry friends.
"It comes down to core value," he said.
"(People are) seeing pets as more than just sentimental property so they want to make sure that all their family is evacuated, not just select members."
Mr Glassey said pets include all "companion animals" - everything except livestock.
The results were presented at the Annual Emergency Service Conference in the capital last week.
Just walking out your gate is putting your life on the line.
I would do it deliberatly if I loved the pet i guess.
nup I wouldn't , my pet is my pet, I would not make my children lose their mother because I think their pet is more important.
Hmmm, it would have to depend on the situation
Poll is flawed, you have to many no options and no, of course yes. Anyway in my situation my pet is my best friend and I have nothing else so it's obvious![]()
i would but only if know that every one else is safe as in my kids and wife
My pet is one of the family so absolutely
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
hell no!
if it was my wife or one of my kids then their wouldn't be any thought to it ..
but im not leaving my kids with out a dad or my wife without a husband just for a pet..screw that
I would for my dog, wouldn't even think twice. She's apart of the family, been through alot with her.
She's Defended my wife from intruders, so yep wouldn't even think twice to return the favour.
I'm sure my wife would do the same.
Not for a budgie though.
No.
Undoubtedly pets are great, but I wouldn't go as far as putting my life on the line for one.
If it were certain people you were talking about, then its a different story. Pets simply do not have the brain power to recognise that you just saved their life by pushing them out of a car's way and got creamed yourself.
In short, I value my own life more.
Not a chance....
Me & my family come well before pets. A pet can be replaced, a human life can't be.....
I love my dog and that's why i wouldn't let him get into a situation where both mine and his or either of our lives would be at risk. But in saying that i wouldn't risk my life to save his, i would do anything to help him if he was sick, like when i got a recent vet bill i didn't eat(well the bare minimum) or drive or go out or do anything really for a fortnight so that i could afford to pay the bill. But when it comes to life i think it's a different matter.
Just my input anyway.
really depends on the pet and the situation. more than likely i would take the risk, i dont have a wife or kids. dog starts drowning in the river id consider it, the budgie flying toward the ceiling fan, im not jumpin to catch him!
I tried to break up a fight between my dog and an adult rottie. It wasnt really a fight, my dog doesnt fight, he's the biggest little chicken s***so the rottie was ontop of him, got a bite of my pups ear
Anyway, clearly not a wise thing to do on my behalf, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
DVSV8... About the budgie flying into the ceiling fan... instead of jumping to catch it, you could just turn the fan off? lol
quite simply, no...you only get 1 shot at life and i am not putting it at risk for an animal that decides to do something stupid..harsh but true
Sticking a Chev badge on any Commodore is like putting a Nissan badge on a VL
EOI....VE SS 18" wheels x4 with 5000k's on new tread, 2 of have very minimal gutter rash (previous owner) otherwise like new send me a pm if interested.
I would do anything and everything for my pet, i mean when my dog has been on my dirt bike/quad bike seat with me and has almost fallen off trying to chase a rabbit and in one case dragged me to the ground with it.
Sure it may have been my fault since i had dog on my seat but it wont stop complaining if i dont take it with me out at a mates farm but as many have said she is part of the family.
...The New Zealand-based poll found that 58 per cent of people would return to a danger zone rather than allow their pets to perish...I mean come on, does anybody else see it? lmfao......"(People are) seeing pets as more than just sentimental property so they want to make sure that all their family is evacuated, not just select members"...
It might just be me not having enough sleep, but thats ****in funny as.
We all knew that they "loved" their "pets"
Major LOL, thanks for throwing that one in Mr Glassey,...Mr Glassey said pets include all "companion animals" - everything except livestock...
Disclaimer: I am not trying to start a fight, or offend anyone by this comment, merely stating something that is (a) commonly known (fact) And something I find amusing

I have a few New Zealand friends and we consider this to be socially acceptable, as is telling me to STFU and "go and eat some frogs legs..."
Now, back on topic, I didn't vote, because there wasn't a "Most likely - but depends on the situation" option in the poll.
I pretty much would, but unless the chances of my survival (of putting myself in danger) were basically non existant.
So in the words of my old work - I'd do a "risk assesment" and weigh out the pro's and con's before deciding on any further action to take.
Putting you life in danger, could be anything from crossing the street, to hoping in your car. I do it for a feed, so of course I'd do it for something that I cared about.
