Yes
No
Not yet, but I would.
Just wondering, following on from the "flash you lights" poll. Has anyone here stopped to tow a stranger's car off the road or to a safe spot.
Mike
Nope and i probably wouldn't, i usually have my kids in the car by myself and i have to think of their safety if i was to stop to help someone. If my DH is with me we have pulled up to help change tyres and stuff before.
When i had my 4wd hilux, always stopped to help ppl when broken down in the lanes etc, dont know y sumtimes when dam rude motorist carry on yellin and swearing there heads off casue they blocking the sydney peak hour traffic.
but yeah have done bout 10 / 15x and plenty off stuck 4wders too out on the racks. and some sedans as well for sum reason(think they can 4wd)
have not yet needed to help anyone since back in the commodore.
Im probly wrong so dont listen to me
My friends & I spend a lot of time on Moana beach. for those that dont know its a "car beach" which means you can drive on it etc..
but lots of people usually not localsget bogged there. (dont know how to drive on sand *shakes head* Now if they look like newbies & they let us help (you would be suprised how many dont! - in which case we just sit there & laugh our arses off at them!) we always help.
Now when I was younger b4 I had a car I still used to go down there heaps (hot cars & hot guys, & ya get a tan what more is there to need?lol ) We used to just dig/push people out.
Then when we all had cars we could help pull people out who were fair stuck.
The 120Y DATTO ruled over all.... you would never believe what stuff it manged to pull out!! we once pulled a XF that was bogged down to the axles straight out! Go Datto power! lmao too funny watching this little datto pull out the ford.
But other than on the beach I have never had the need to help tow anyone.
ah Moana beach - always fun...Word of warning, Tide can come in quicker than u think, If we offer help dont turn it down... You people know who you are.... lol Damn I would have taken so much better care of that VT SS .... damn watse of a nice car... oh well live & learn...

Im pretty sure its illigal to tow another car with a tow rope now. read thru the QLD road rules book a year or 2 ago and i think its illigal to tow another car like that now
Yeah, it is illegal to tow a car with a rope (in Qld anyway). Has been that way for as long as I remember.Originally Posted by vinnywelsh
yeah although its illegal to "flat tow" with a rope I see it all the time.Tow trucks here arent that exxy really, I remember all the undercutting we did when we owned towtrucks, just to stay in the market we would offer them so cheap.... doesnt make sense to me to risk the fine / cause an accident by flat towing.

Not exactly a tow but on the same lines:
A while back a guy was stuck in the middle lane of Gympie Road at Aspley(Brisbane) during peak hour in Brisbane, everyone was screaming and swearing at him, and he couldnt push it by himself, so we stuck our car in the left lane, and helped him push it off the road.
i rang a couple of towies last year to tow an unregistered car to the mechanics for a RWCOriginally Posted by dannc
they wanted a minimum of $50 each way to tow car a maximum of 4 kms for a round trip
i wouldn't call $25 a km that cheap
especially when they sit at the end of our street for hours waiting for accidents to happen :b:
i've pushed a couple of cars off the road in the past
ive stopped to help a lady change a tyre. when i pulled up she looked terrified. posh bitch dont think she ever even said thanks.
if i have time i'll usually stop and help them push their car off the road, change a tyre etc i dont mind doing it as long they say thankyou, like last night my girlfriend and i were 4 wheel driving down in port kennedy, we saw this brand new BMW X3 bogged down to its guts so we help dig them out and followed them back to the road to make sure they got out ok as it was pissing with rain and getting really muddy, so we get back to the road and start chatting with them and the drivers wife said they were stuck for about 3hrs and no one had offered to help them so she gave us fifty bucks for our troubles and with that they were on there way...... and who said all BMW drivers are wankers?![]()
respect my authoritah
Came across a bloke who reversed out of a park and gas stalled... Had a line of like 20 cars backed up behind him honking horns, not one idiot got out to help him back into the park. I was on the sidewalk, ran out and pushed him back in... And gave a few fingers when idiots when past.
Have also jumped a few people in car parks. Found a lady that had somehow blown an engine fuse in the middle of the highway... I had a ton of spares, so helped her out. She even offered me cash for it, but I turned it down.
EDIT: Jump started*.....
Fixed, just removed some of the minor details just like the media
On topic, I havent towed anyone, and would NEVER give someone a tow unless I know them and there driving skills, I sure as shit dont want someone running up my arse or worse from trying to do them a favour. But I will stop and try and help someone as much as I can.
Worst was this guy had been in front of me for over an hour, then he pulls over and puts his hazard lights on, We are 40 minutes away from the next town so I pull over to see if I can help. "Im right mate, just taking a piss", WTF why would you put your hazard lights on at 3am on a back country road to take a piss.
Also jump started this old bloke one day, he was persistant he wanted to do it blah blah, hes shaking and I swear he was mm's from touching the two live terminals together. Get him started and pack up, and he stalls taking off, round two.
yep towed a landcruiser up cunningham's gap, the stranded family broke a slave cylinder (clutch)

Hours of fun to be had down at Moana. I too have offered many a time to get a townie out of trouble, but being a female most of them politely thank me thinking I would have no idea. So I sit and watch them revving the hell out of the car, digging themselves in deeper and deeper. I step in again, wiping tears of laughter away, and ask them to humour me. Nothing beats the shame on a man's face in front of his peers when I get his car out.
you lady's take great pleasure in man's pain.
oh the wounded pride

I always do, soooo many stories.
One time this guy was broken down in the middle of burwood highway just before springvale road, facing up the hill.
So I pulled up behind him and put my hazards on, car wouldn't start, its in the way, lets have a look I figured.
So after some poking about I deduce that its the gas switch to blame, it needs to switch back to petrol to start, its locked on gas and doesn't seem to be getting power to the switch.
I mozy on back to my car, grab my toolbox, wander on back, a length of wire, a fuse and a few clips, etc later, his car is off on his way and guess who decides to arrive just then? RACV.
Who then checked over it and i'm sure they would of had to agree with me, whoever wired that gas setup should have been shot.
Me and dad once helped someone while out 4wheel driving near Charters Towers (old gold mining town). To our surprise they gave us a considerable chunk of gold for helping. Dad sold it recently for quite a few hundred. So defiently pays to be nice!

opposite side for me car carked it and burnt out the crank angle sensor while at the entry to the roundabout, peak hour traffic, i get out to push it around the corner and out of no where my dad starts pushing the back with the guy from behind me. lucky he decided to clock off early
I wouldn't tow my own car, that answers that question.
Don't even like giving jump starts with all this electrics and shit, i got the anti zap leads and still hate it.
