Thread: Idea: Just Commodore Magazine

I've been thinking, maybe one day Just Commodores could produce a magazine with info on the Commodores and a couple other tidbits about Holdens. Maybe have a magazine every two months (eg. Jan/Feb 2004, Mar/Apr 2004). It would be a way for Just Commodores to make a profit too...
    Tell me what you think.

    Cheers.

i think there's some pretty knowledgeable people here, but have you looked in a newsagent? there are many of these mags in existence already.

Supposedly, there is excellent money in magazines. Word of mouth is a powerful tool but not to good for raising revenue, could help with sponsorship

What would be put in it and would it be worth the cost of freight and printing?

I don't know about the cost of freight and printing but I'm with blanch, it WOULD give good sponsorship. I don't know about what we'd put in it, we'd make it up as we go along.

    Cheers.

alright jaime if you have the time to go and do everything that is involved in printing a magazine such as finding sponsors and gathering all the information and spending time designing it and finding the money to pay people to do all the above and then finding someone to print it etc etc. then by all means go right ahead but i think it not nessesarily a stupid idea...its not really nessesary though with all the other commodore/street machine mags out there like Street Commodores that are full of information etc.

That could work, but would take much volunteering as its not like there is any money to be made off it. Any reporters in our midst?

yes it sounds like a good idea, but i think with the magz that are already out i think
these would be legal issues due to copyright, like (Street Commodores) taking us to court saying we had that in are mag last month..

i'm all for a mag/newsletter for the members maybe go around to some small business and see if they will input some discounts if we promote them on the site. but the only thing is if we put discounts on the newsletter it must be usable for all members IE someone in WA does'nt want a discount from a shop in TAS or QLD...
    etc etc

a online newsletter would be good members just have to sign up for it
as i dont think some of as wish to pay for postage cost to receive a newsletter

Definately online! Much easier, no costs, easier to get it out etc.

Alot of it could be things like, how to put cai on your vn. Step by step with pictures. And then the week after its released, have it on the site or something.

Its going to take alot of someones effort.

well if some of us make the inputs to the online newsletter/mag and then someone just has to put all the input together into a format/ layout they they like

    That's it.

As long as people keep posting how to's and the like it will be a lot easier.

Hey I'll be in that. I work sometimes (when I feel like doing extra work) writing dance music articles mainly, also layout and design and lots of editing and proof reading for a local paper here in Ipswich. It has a circulation of about 25,000 and readership is around 50,000 people.

I can do some layout and design and PDF the results. Online would be the way to go, a small forum just cant compete with a nationwide magazine, it's too well established. I'm certain if we could get some good content, a bigger forum would would be produced. Certain.

things that i think should be in the online newsletter/mag

    1) How to ?
    2) Members Car of the month (maybe have about 5 cars per month)
    3) JustCommodres.com Stats
    4) Site of the Month
    5) Upcomming Events (ie Summernats, Motorvation, Drag Comps, Cruise&#39
    6) Sponsership of somesort

Yeah, I didn't realise that this thread was old. I reckon it's a top idea, and wouldn't mind doing some of the writing/reporting side. Then, of course if sponsorships/advertisements could be sold then it'd make the cost of a subscription less. So yeah, if anyone decides its a goer, I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

I write the newsletter for my local car club, which just includes info like club events that took place, or events in planning, for sale section, feature car, any articles of interest, feature article, and i have my little editors say. but all this is pretty much on the forum anyway.
