I got zapped by a spark plug lead heaps of times ages ago, and it wasn't too bad, so I was a bit careless when setting the timing on my VN once.. (complete with MSD multispark goodness ignitions system) - It felt like being kicked in the chest by a horse like 10 times in 20 milli seconds.

Also when I was young I decided to check the fuses in the house - they were the porcelain style ones with the fuse wire on either side - I went to pull out a fuse by it's edges, contacting the wire with my fingers.... That just felt like a vibraty-funny-feeling through my arm and into my chest

When I was younger I used to love the 9v battery trick, lol!

At my old work one of the routine services that had to be carried out just happened to be a lawn mower, (I'm used to working on big earth moving machinery/trucks etc... So a lawn mower should be easy enough!) Needed to check the spark from it, plug the coil lead into a spark checker thingy they had, while holding the coil lead/connection yanked on the ripcord, gave me a nice tingle. Not to mention the numerous times checking dirt bike plugs out in the bush, to see if they're fowled or not.

And one little zap from 240v, was plastering around a power point/ceiling fan switch, it was loose so I lifted it up to get the scraper down beside it and touched the terminals on the back of the switch (with the hand I was holding the switch with, not the scraper)

So, c'mon, share your stories ari, we know you've got some!!

man i got lots of zapping stories. my most favorite was taking the alter-cap off the back of an old telly. i was doing a traineeship in auto elec, but the place i was working didnt always have car jobs so sometimes i fixed household electricals. anyway, douchbag boss neglected to tell me that old tube style tellys stored MASSIVE volts in the tube and that you are supposed to ground your screwdriver to discarge the tube before you take the cap off.

anyway, i didnt know, stuck my screwdriver in the alter-cap BAM, was on the ground. took a few seconds to figure out where i was, when i stood up and came to my senses, the boss was pissing himself laughing and the other guy working there was giving me dirty looks. looking around for my screwdriver i found it embedded in the plasterboard wall, handle first about 3 inches from the other dudes head...

i have more stories, but fair is fair, others must post.

Had to shorten the new kettle lead one day and promplty cut the toaster lead in half instead - with a solid "BANG" and lost the pliers out of my hand!

Lucky for me I had new pliers with good protected handles. I gave up all electrical work on 240v after this happened for my own safety.

hmmm most recent one i can think of was . I was checking if the coil packs were working with 2 leads of at a time and i thought (dumb as idea ) , insted of turning the car off ill put them back on with pliers and move on to the next set , touched the first lead on the coil pack and electric all through my arm , pulsing for at least 3 seconds before i let go of the pliers , turned out parts of the installation was worn off lol

Used to do the 9 volt on the tongue a lot when I was little, also me and 2 of my bros used to grab the electric fence at our old farm and see who could hold on the longest. 3 people holding doesnt hurt as much if you are holding it by yourself. The last one to take a hand off gets the most shock out of it but its nothing huge when you are already expecting it.

Worst one was at a old house with a really high roof, I couldnt reach by standing on a chair so I got up on the bunk bed and tried to unscrew it but the plastic at the top just kept turning around, so I lifted up the plastic to grab underneath so it wouldnt spin and got a big jolt, fell off bunk bed and landed half on a desk and half on the gorund, hurt like hell all over.

Before anyone says I should have checked to see if the light switch was on, it was a old cord one hanging from the roof. Pull down to turn it off and the same to turn it on so I had no idea.

changing the broken globe in my old 240 volt worklight, pulled the base of the broken fluro tube out with pointynose pliers... guy a work thought it would be funny to turn the switch on at the power point.

fair to say his toolbox got the coil tester attatched to it a few times the next couple days after that happened

worst i've had was a CR125 plug lead bite me. that was bad enough!

ya gotta be wary of 240V (and higher) electricity, yeah millions of people have been bit and lived but some haven't

Lost count or can no longer count after the many zaps
    - Fork in a power point (as a kid)
    - As a kid the 9v battery
    - nails in the end of a power lead (as a kid)
    - bought a faulty timing light it would arc out to your head when sighting the timing mark, managed to set the timing and took it back, now I just do it by ear.
    - several high voltage zaps from color tubes of CRT TVs and monitors they really hurt
    - 415v 3 phase zap when my aircompressor developed a fault where the power wires came into contact with the body of the compressor I got zapped turning the drain tap off.
    - last week I got zapped on the temple under a customers house by bare wires

So I guess 11kv or lightning is next.... stay tuned
    Scott

one day i was mounting a grinder on the work bench in the garage. ran an extension cord to the grinder and the plug on the chord wasnt the same as the one on the grinder. whilst i went to bunnings to buy a new plug to rewire it, mum decided to vaccum her car and when i got home she lft the power on. i then came home to think the power was off, cut straight into it without a second thought, put my pliers through the wall and a nice big round melted spot in the teeth of my new pliers. alssooo was up for another trip to bunning for a new lead and some plaster.

when i was a little chap also did the old kinfe in the toaster and at achool used to see who could put the leads from the little power box things in science on the highest voltage on their tongue. those were the days!

As a kid i was fumbling around in the dark trying to figure out why my mums bedside lamp wouldn't come on, turns out it had no globe in it and my fingers found their way into the socket. Zapped right up my left arm and towards my chest lol.

Another one at work the other day I was unplugging a UPS (basically a power board with a 12v battery and 240v inverter inside) and accidently touched the end of the plug straight out of the socket, that one wasn't that bad though.

Other then 9v battery and electric fence I have no other stories thankfully.

Well I don't have too many stories which is suprising since I play with alot of computer hardware.( got close on time when playing with an frankenstein fan setup I let go of the live 12v cables and those buggers made a freaking huge spark, I'm lucky my computer survived that one )

However I do have one story. When I was a kid I had a friend who had a farm/bach and we would often make a big fire out the back. Well I was going around picking up some wood and some pine needles, then I bent down to pick up some more wood and then I zapped my arse on an electric fence. My friend who was sitting on the water tank at the time, then proceeded to crap himself laughing while I rolled on the ground holding my arse. It also happened to be the first time I was shocked by anything stronger than a 9v battery and it scared the crap out of me.

Battery on tongue is enough for me; Im to cautious to even do that now. even creating electricity sliding down a slide then touching metal scares me

Cut thru what I thought was a water pipe (3/4" copper pipe) with a hack saw once. Was shocked to find 240v power cable thru the middle of it :/. Had a few zaps from spark plug wires etc but nothing too bad.

haha, ive got another electric fence story..

My story was coming home from a long late day at work, with a 3 hour drive ahead of me, got about 2 hours in and i needed a pee really bad, so i pulled the car over on the side of the road got out went behind the bushes so the highway traffic couldn't see me.. got my fella out thinking i could finally release the tension i've been holding back for the last hour, then *BANG*!! ... my nuts felt like they exploded ...

next time im gonna be checking for an electric fence first!!

When I was about 13 we went to a friends place who was renovating the bathroom.

I needed to drop bomb bad so I just rushed in, closed the door and dropped my daks.

Decided to flick the light on as it was pretty dark and it turned out it was just wires poping out the wall where the stiwtch was. Copped it via the index finger and it started the crap out of me. Literally.
