Stick with the 2003 VY acclaim
SV6 ute
Colorado TD 4x4 single cab
I've been trying to choose what would be the best car for me, I'm a 1st year Diesel Fitter appretice and i have a 2003 VY Commodore Acclaim.
At the moment im in between 3 options
1) Keep my 2003 Acclaim and add some modifications to it such as, new twin exhaust system, extractors, new front and rear rotors, new brake calipers, new springs and struts, some body work (spoiler, hood, skirts), paint job (it's red atm and I'm sick of the colour), update the audio system, and maybe look into getting a turbo kit fitted.
2) SV6 Ute - since I've started my apprenticeship I've felt like I've needed a car with a tray for the extra room for my tool boxes and work stuff. A SV6 ute would have a tray for my tool boxes and also have the good looks of a nice ride, depending if i went for new or used i could also do some mods to the ute.
3) Colorado TD 4x4 single cab - is another option I've been thing of, it would have the space with the tray for my work stuff and with a 4x4 i could rough it around abit and not worry to much about the looks, I'm not sure wat mods you can make to a 4x4 ?
advice would be great because This is all I've thing about lately
pros and cons for each car ?
+1 for SV6 ute - I'm not biased either.
Hey mate.
Sv6 ute or Toyota Hilux.
Yea i'm leaning towards the SV6 ute,
I believe for a new ute it would set me back around $33,000, or maybe i could find a good used one for around $25,000
colorado, yuck.. flip a coin between the ute and acclaim.....
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
anything but the Colorado, they really are a POS
we have a fleet of 7 Colorados at work. Nothing but problems and terrible fuel economy for a diesel.
Does your job really warrant a ute? Reason i ask is i see people with Commodore utes and never have anything in the tray, or just a medium sized toolbox that would fit easily in a sedan...
You can't carry heavy loads in a Commo ute either because of the IRS.
If you want a work ute get a Hilux or Navara.
VY would be good to keep while your doing your apprenticeship.
I'm trade the old GTS in when the new 2012 Colorado comes out-

As for fuel economy you don't buy a 4WD for better economy, and it looks some much better than a SV6.
I had a RA LT crew cab 4X4 3.0Ltr diesel and loved it.
PERFORMANCE MODS- JTG Liquid injection, Under driven pulley, Pacemaker extractors, 3" X-force system, Cold air intake, MAF Less tune 267.9 RWKW'S

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
Yea kinda, most of the time my tool boxes will be in the workshop, just when i want to take them home or take them to do some jobs on the weekend i thought a tray would come in handy.
but now I'm leaning towards keeping the Vy and modding it, It would be good for me to work on it and learn more about cars for my trade but it would be alot of work all the stuff i want to do.
yea the crew cabs are nice just expensive for new 4x4
if i hade a 4x4 it would be out of a Colorado, Hilux or a Narvara
but like i said i work on Hilux's all the time at work so get sick of them but dont get me wrong they are a tough 4x4 and get the job done
and a new 4x4 navara is out of my price range
and all the used 4x4 i look at have to many Kms for my liking so havn't really found a good deal on one yet
I'm leaning towards sticking with my VY acclaim and modding while I'm a apprentice
