Guys
I damaged a rim when entering a Coles Express Car wash the other day and quite simply the reason was because I could not guide my car through the rails.
Since speaking to them I have learnt that cars with aftermarket items of any description are basically not supposed to go through the wash. I own a VE with aftermarket rims and they said because they were not factory fitted I had no recourse.
I wont go into the full debate we have had but I am interested in peoples ideas or possible similar problems.
Thanks.
Leave any other comments if you like
are the aftermarket rims the same size as standard ?
They are 20" (mine came with 20" from factory). Front is the same. 8.5". But the rear is different. 10.5". Maybe a bit more offset.
But I only got about a metre into the carwash before I felt the contact. I stopped and opened my door and saw I had about less than 2" on my side. I dont care how different my wheels are, you should be able to drive through with a bit more room than that. My wheels still fit in my guards etc so they are legal.
mmmmmm its hard to know where to go there hey, was it the front or back tyre that grabbed ?
That sux hard bonners
Who have you spoken to at CE hopefuly not just the site manager - you will have to go through the highrarchy - getting there probably will be difficult
Do they have terms and conditions of the car wash, get yourself a copy - it might be on the outside of the carwash
If you can proove that your car came with 20" wheels from the factory there should be a way into claiming the cost of the damaged rim
You have to be persistant
I can't believe you would run a car as nice as yours through one of those automated car washes!
It's black too! How swirled is it in direct sunlight?
Yeah im almost tempted to say its your own silly fault for taking a car through one of those car washes.
How did it actually happen. Did you just not see where to go or did one of the machines actually damage it?
WTF how is it Coles fault you cant drive... You don't ring the council when you scrape a rim outside your house do you... Always everyone else's fault these days..

Some amusing answers.
Has nothing to do with my ability (or possible lack there of) to drive a car. It would appear that there are a few who didn't quite understand the problem when they attempted to read the original posts.
And considering a mate damaged X5 wheels in the same wash - I say there is a problem.
As for potholes. I burst two 20" bridgeys on these crap Brisbane roads. Guess who coughed up the coin. Brisbane City Council.
You guys need to stand up for yourselves and fight when damage is done to your car from a third party. The amount of times I have heard "I didn't do anything about it because I didn't think I'd get anywhere"....
But it's ok, blame me, make fun of the poll.... But a simple yes or no answer would have suffice. Maybe understand the problem fully before hanging sh*t on someone
man i was trying to help and you never answered my question ? was it the frount or back rim that grabbed ?

Hey Adam.
Mate definately get a copy of the Terms and Conditions and also the proof that the car came with the 20" rims.
The T&Cs should advise who to contact re claims etc. so that'd be the best way to go with it i'd suggest mate. If not T&Cs there should be a list of them as you enter on a board at the very least. Get a crisp photo of that and check it out.
Hope you get it sorted out.
Black on Black is beautiful!
lol One of my mates was drunk cleaning hes mums brand new astra with a Window Squigee thing and it snapped and put a nice scratch in it i lold
the servo payed for the damage lol
It pays to at least ask the question and make it known at the time it happens no matter what the damage. That way at least it is recorded by someone at the time etc and no hassles coming back at a later time/date when it can't be proved.
I had the guard on my Pontiac smacked up due to misplacement of jack however didn't notice it for 3 weeks so I had nothing to come back on. I tried but couldn't prove it had happened at the particular shop. Didn't cost me anything to have it fixed but none the less.......
