7th Generation Video Game Consoles

Inspired by a post in the Jokes/Humor forum (I know) I thought it would make for an interesting poll..

If you could only have one of the current three seventh generation video game consoles which one would you choose?

I choose PS3 simply because i've had the 2 before it, no other reason.

Im gonna go with the Nintendo Wii because its only $399, HALF the price of the PS3. Its been getting good reviews on that new controller and its games too.. Though personally I aint so sure on the controller. Built in speaker and rumble pack and all that though, with motion sensors and all that jazz so it can be used as a steering wheel, bat, or any other interactive peice. I think the PS3 would be better but not til its cheaper.

I chose the PS3 as well. It is the superior console (also a superior price).

PC all the way... YOu can run an emulator to use all of the other consoles. You can get adapters to use all of the other controllers... and if you cant yet, you will soon. There fully upgradable and customisable.. There the best!

i'll go with a xbox 360, i like the controllers more, and heat issues aside i like my driving games. no i dont like GT so dont mention it. PGR for arcade and forza for sim, throw in a good rally game and of course halo

Between my brother and I we allways get all three, he's had the xbox 360 almost a year now and haven't really used it at all yet! (still prefering the ps2). It seems the PS3 will be the winner, I think the Nintendo will do very well too. The PS2 proved itself over the years to be the best console so far I think, what can you say about GT4 and Enthusia racing apart from droolage . it so owned the original xbox in the last couple of years once the programers got their head around it

I've owned many of each of the 6th Generation consoles (Dreamcast, PS2, XBOX and Gamecube), the only one I've ended up holding onto is the XBOX (this is my second one - broke the network port don't ask) because I put a 120GB hard drive in it, it's running Linux/XBOX Media Centre and it kicks complete arse.. most powerful of the 6th Generation, and it's got emulators so I can play NES (got 10,785 roms), SNES (got 6766 roms), N64 (got 160 roms), Arcade (got 13GB+ roms) and more, the games for it aren't that bad either but I hardly play them, use it for it's other functionality.. Any type of media I throw at it, it can just play, has 720p/1080i output and 5.1 digital surround which isn't that spectacular but it's alright.

I've pre-ordered and am picking up my Wii on Thursday, the reason I chose it is because for too long video game system have been the same, and if Nintendo didn't make the Wii-remote they still would be (Sony copied the idea for their sixaxis controller at the last minute). XBOX 360 to me brings nothing new, just updated graphics.. though I would like the HD-DVD drive for it for my Computer (plug and play!). When the PS3 gets cheaper and better build quality (LOL @ Sony) I might get one because it would make full use of the HDTV and 7.1 we have, and using it as a computer would be alright however the Wii is only 480p and 5.1, but the controller is the reason I'm getting one.. and I know I should be saving up for the computer upgrades (got the x2 3800 sitting here in it's box waiting for motherboard/graphics/ram/case/psu/hard drives/optical drives/everything) but it's too tempting, if I don't like it on eBay it might end up lol

Whoever said that the PC will be able to emulate XBOX 360, PS3 or Wii must be on drugs, that will take at least 15 years to happen. They're no where near full speed 6th Generation emulation yet and it's been nearly 7 years (except for Dreamcast but it's buggy as hell).

I'd probably go for the Sony Playstation 3 if I had to choose one. I've always had playstations. But I'm happy with my PS2.

The Sony Playstation was originally going to be an add-on system for the Super Nintendo but at the last minute Nintendo decided they didn't like Sony's policies and went with another company.. in the end they didn't make a disc based console until the Gamecube.

Speaking of, what's wrong with the Gamecube? It's actually more powerful than the Playstation 2 and had some excellent titles like Resident Evil 4.

Those people who intend to purchase a PS3.. doesn't the $1000+ price tag of the system even make you sit back and think about it, or do you just throw your money blindly at a company? With Gran Turismo 5 you will be purchasing the game and it will include a minimal amount of cars (like 40 - and 10 tracks) and you will have to pay to download the rest of them.. micro transactions I think it's called.. And Blu-Ray isn't bad, but if you recall the poor build quality associated with Sony's gaming hardware you'd really want to be careful.. there's already cases of consoles broken already!

If it wasn't for Nintendo we probably wouldn't have game consoles today - Atari made a lot of people worried about video games and there was a huge crash, then Nintendo brought it back with their genius thinking (making the NES front loading like a VCR to appeal to wider audiences and have it not perceived as another toy).

Anyone who remembers the Sega Dreamcast (real gamers anyone?) will see a lot of parallels between it and the PS3.. I anticipate this generation will go to either Microsoft or Nintendo (despite what this poll says)

EDIT: At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and reason - I'm buying a Wii because I don't care how cool I am (I'm already cool) I just want to have an enjoyable time playing games.

not always agp is being phased out so people with have to stick with intergrated or go to pci-e.

anyway why would u want to emulate something like x360 when pc has better graphics
