Default Shift Kit the Auto, or go the manual conversion?

Well I feel like spending some more money . I learnt to drive on a manual, but now I drive an auto . So what do you guys think, go the manual conversion, or get the auto shift kitted.

a manual berlina would certainly be different, but a shift kit does feel good and a lot cheaper

not sure where your getting your prices from, but in Sa a decent trans will cost over 1000. And for that 1000, you could get all the parts needed for the manual conversion (and increase the value of your car mind you, assumeing you get the stock interior parts too)

Manual, no doubt about it. sure you could get a fully manualised auto, but you still wouldn't have a clutch pedal!

Coming from someone who's been there, done it again, and probably going to do it more, i say got for the manual conversion.

Over 1000 if you get an entire trans maybe. Shiftkit is like $180, 450 installed if you go to the right place.

I'm going by the prices i got quoted, but that was when i lost drive and over drive. either way, manual is better, stock for stock manual is quicker, more reliable (so you know when your changing gears, not just when the trans feels like it) and a hell of alot more fun.

what are you gonna do with the car? You want quick 1/4's or somehting nice ot drive?

Quaters - Go the auto, rebuild it, shift kit it, B&M ratchet it.

Fun Driving, Looks, Style, Handeling, Price increase (overall car), price of replacement gearbox decrease, thrill, safety, pleasure, enjoyment, alternativeness (everyones got an auto), burnouts and just plain better - Manual all the way.

autos are stupid. ### off evryone, they just are.

i say shift kitted auto but it really depends on what stage you are planning on going, if its just S2 or lower i'd go manual.

yeah pretty sure he wants to keep it as a street car (ie. SIII not really street applicable!)

Yeah I'm not planning on doing many (if any) 1/4 miles in my car. After having learnt in a manual, the auto was a nice change when I got my car. But now I miss the sound, the footwork, everything about a manual. I also miss the control you have......autos are just point and shoot (which anyone can do )

I'm not to sure, haven't really worked it out. After my initial research, I'd say the parts for a manual conversion would be anywhere between $1000-$2000. Add on top of that the labour if you can't do it yourself

the one thing i wont be able to help you with, is the computer.

My car didn't need to be changed, but i've been told that VR/S do, so you'll have to add that into the budget

i know theyre hard to find, but i got a manual from the start and have never looked back. I learnt to drive in my dad's vsII manual that he's had from new. I got my vsII manual last july, she was $8K, but it's all worth it. It turns out my vsII is a few thousand bulid numbers newer than my dads lol! I thought it was funny that we ended up with basically the same car

In short, go the manual. You wont regret it

A berlina in Manual is a ****load rarer than an exec in manual!

so the only choice really is to convert

price up both, and see the price difference

from what iunderstand a manual conversion in a VS will require computer and loom conversion, which could get pricey if you don't do it yourself...

I made the conversion from auto->manual a while ago, and it was a great change! back then the car was a stock v6 with an LSD... it was a LOT nicer to drive with the manual, it was more fun, less boring, MUCH better on fuel, it FELT quicker (although it was probably same speed as auto)....

my only complaint is being stuck in peak hour traffic with a very heavy duty clutch...

although, if you want your car to go super quick evntually (1/4 mile spec), i'd probably stick with the auto, and get it built damn tough.

It doesn't matter what anyone says, having the clutch there so you can decide when you want to change can never be beaten.
