You would be looking long and hard to find a 4 cyl car that's as quick as an old "taxi" pack Commodore or Falcon for the same price. I'd even bet that over 90% of brand new 4 cylinders on the market today are slower than a VN V6, 10% is hardly most

There was some bloke that had a VP V6 no forced induction at all he made 250kw pretty easy. That's around 180rwkw+.. Many V6 owners don't know what is out there, Many don't know how easy it is to make good power out of there V6's, After reading a book of one man that has been tuning V6's since 88 he was mad that 99% of people thought Forced induction was the only way to make good power from a buick V6.. Now the alloytec is out people are starting to find they can make good power, Especially since the Alloytec isn't really high on mods at the moment.

I dont think Ford will be bringing out a V6 anytime soon. Personally i prefer straight 6's than a v6. People think the V6 is superior but the only point of the v6 is to make it more compact, mainly to fit into small FWD cars found in America/Japan. Afterall the Buick and Ecotec v6 were designed for FWD vehicles. Holden could easily fit a straight 6 under the bonnet but unfortunatley GM dont offer such a thing

(IMO) anyone who is completely one sided to any car company is very short sighted
both holden and ford have produced some great aussie cars and yes im refering to the ford GTHO phase 3 that was the fastest four door production car in the world when it hit our aussie roads to me holden and ford are like to rival brothers always trying to out do each other with one or the other comeing off winner every so often, but even though they differ somewhat ultimately the same aussie muscle car blood flows through both their veins to produce the great cars we have today and in fact its this very fued that has pushed both holden and ford to their limits to produce cars that we have today and are now starting to be recognized globaly
    heres 2 nice car examples!

Ford are dumping their straight 6 in 3 years...bringing in the piece of **** duratech to replace one of the toughest engines in the world(my opinion only).

I would still prefer these "slower" 4 Cylinders too a ratty, old VN V6. I hate them with a passion.

It wont be that bad, but I agree I can't believe they're dumping the I6.

    R.I.P Australia's best 6 cylinder engine.

That comment has always ****ted me hard, Everyone thinks because the first series VN was rough that all models that follow are **** because they base it all on a VN from 88.

Sorry mate, but from experience they're quite sh*t. They may go pretty good, but IMO they're a sh*tbox.

I was considering one of the eb (??the sort of boxy ones....same era as the VN / VP commodore??) XR8 sedans when they are sitting down at a nice ride height they do look tough IMO. They do go quite well at the same time!

Ah so it is the EB, maybe i know more about fords than i thought hehehe.

I was driving next to a p-plater in one a few months ago, it was very nice! It was that black with green through it, sitting at a nice ride height (not thorpy low), had a clean simple set of 18"'s on it with an exhaust, the body was clean and straight. It just looked tough in the stance it was riding at. Sounded nice too!

Are they really that sluggish? I heard the BA XR's drive like ships but that was only one opinion. You own a BA don't you? What do you think of them handling wise?

oh, and one more thing! you'd have to make pretty slow V8's to build the fastest 4 door in the world.

I am talking Australian built cars. The last quick Falcon 8 was what around 40 years ago now?

I am not one eyed holden i like fords, but i've grown in up in a family where my father is a ford fanatic, my holdens have always been quicker than his falcons spending similar dollars.

Both had air intake and exhaust and tune. Both had only done around 25,000k's.

The XY hasn't been the fastest car in a long time, it was also only fast in a 1/4 mile, on the track...well that was beaten by holden and ford well before the VN Group A.

also probably the ugliest motor in the world. my dad is a ford fan and he cant stand to lift up the bonnet on his territory. i know the eco tecs or alloy tecs aren't good lookers either but its not just a rectangular block!
however they are good engines tho and dont see why they are dumping it for a v6...the straight 6 layout is so much more balanced...often simplicity is the key.

Have both brands so I have no problems changing brands.

In terms of the sixes the Fords are much better, the torque delivery from my XR is fantastic and you don't have to ring the neck out of the motor as you do a Holden V6. It also responds better to mods.

In terms of 8's, Since Ford introduced the 8 again Holden have a better engine and since the Gen3 they have an engine that will respond better to breathable mods.

All I can say is its a great time to be a consumer.

Sorry but i can't agree with the both of you based on experiences.. My VP has been a great car and i have not driven a better car for it's time.. As far as a ****box i think that's a total ****ed up way of calling an engine that has served holden great since 88.. Now i step into a Ecotec engine and I'm looking forward to renewing my relationship with this engine it has been 11 years since i drove a new VS Ecotec V6. My sisters BF his father both own Series 1 VN's, From driving them to my VP you can appreciate the large difference, In 2 area's, maintenance and care Cars go a long with with some basic TLC.

Now alloytec base engines 175-180 yes they are loud crude at times, But not the 195 engine at all it's a very good engine with plenty to offer.

You dont have to agree. I am just stating what i believe after driving every model commodore since the VN in a 6 from buick to ecotech to alloytech, it is nowhere near as refined an engine as the ford 6.
