Car Service: Manufactors Vs Normal Places
hey guys, its that time of the year again, car service which do thinks the best to get my car done for service, Manufacturers Dealers Service or Normal places, i only thing i hate about Manufacturers is their prices are 300 and above from 120km upwards services, i probably would be getting it done at least til January /Feb,
what do you guys think

if i had to have the car done by a mechanic for warranty, id find who does it best for the best price, consistently and stick with them. otherwise, i do it myself.
see what they think of you using your own parts, because thats what is generally pricey at most dealers i think

but usually the best price means they are skimping elsewhere to be able to do it for a cheaper price. speak to mates. and the like and see how theyres went and where they went but id do it myself as you know everything is done right and the way you like it.

lol that time of the year ? more that like that of the month they should be done every 5 - 10 thousand kms or every 3 months .
personally i do most of the servicing/repairs myself with the assistance of jc forums i find ive been able to do nearly everything ive needed to do when only a short few years ago i didnt even know how to change the oil.
now im servicing transmissions every 100 thou changing oil every 5 thou, replaced injectors gaskets plugs leads etc just replaced a power steering pump on the 25th anniversary and bleed the system, only thing i leave up to the pro's is the tyres and breaks even done some electrical repairs after having taken my statesman to a sparky and them buggering the job up even more and me having to repair their mistake properly

just rang ultratune 2day and said $237 for 135000km service compared to $400ish mark by votes and sound like not much people like going to manufacturers

It depends on the warranty on the car. With Mitsubishi you need to get the vehicle serviced at least once a year by a Mitsubishi service centre to keep the five year road side assist. The only downside to DIY is that if there is ever a software upgrade to the vehicle you can't do it. If the car doesn't have any service obligations then do it yourself, but follow the book and do everything it recommends. Better to replace a part during a service than having a broken car on the side of the road.

I do the normal service on our TJ Magna, but the timing with belt i took it to RACV Roadcare, mainly coz there is a guy there who used to work at the mitsubishi dealer and he knows them inside out.I went to the dealer got a price of around $550,and roadcare cost $210 plus another $70 for the belt,i figured that was cheaper than me doin it and stuffin it up,cost many dracma to get a pair 24 valve engine heads fixed up.

it doesn't have any warranty on the car, the car is 7.5 years old so the warranty would've been out ages so yeah.

My vl is coming on 260,000... i do basic service myself, anything big i take to my mate whos a qualified mechanic and we go buy the parts and he teaches me how to do it... no worries about manufactures warranty or anything, but if it was a new car ofcourse i would be doing it differently

i clicked option "myself" but.... it depends on what needs doing. i do all my own oil changes, filters, leads wheel bearings ( all the easy-ish stuff ) etc etc on both the rex and the vk but anything major on the rex i go to my chosen subaru specialist as i dont know the "indepth" stuff of them and i dont know the workings of turbos. for the vk, one of my goods mates is a mechanic so he helps me do stuff. we just recently did a cam upgrade on the k and he did the heads, installed/timed the cam and another mate set up the gear drives. i watched, helped and learnt.
so again, depends on what needs doing but we do as much ourselves as we can ( plus i work in the spare parts trade so get parts cheap )

I do all my servicing myself, Why pay 300+ for a oil and filter change? I feel that doing it yourself u take more time and care more for the car
