[QUOTE=vxcalais_01;1194385]Amazing, they recommend another oil over a lpg oil for an lpg car. Proves one of my beliefs that the labels can be deceiving at times. Where Shell are good is, some other oil companies will recommend their lpg specific oil, or a diesel multi fleet oil. Even so have you not noticed how all the other oils a company has will say compatible with LPG ? Its alot of marketing involved.

I too found it hard to believe they would not recommend Helix Super Gas 15w-40 & so rang back a week later & asked a different person. They gave the same recommendation of Helix Plus 15w-50, adding that its synthetic properties made it superior.

Good stuff. Thats the benefit of talking to them. They know their products better than anyone. The lube guides are just that. Some companies change them, some are still the same from day 1, not bothering to change with the times and prestige of the car. Excellent oil choice.

    I am so confused

All I want to know is, what is a good/great oil for my VZ V6 190kw Adventra. She mainly lives an easy life, but sometimes when I am out there she get's a bit of a workout.

Also how often should I change the oil in her so far people have said 5000k, 7500k, 10,000k or 15,000k.

I am happy to spend the money and change the oil more frequently, I just want to make sure I am putting some good/great stuff in her.

    Thanks anyone/everyone for your help

Any of the oils mentioned are great. There are no really bad oils. Mineral SL/SM rated you take to 5000k's, Mineral Oil with a SL/CI-4 or plus rating can be taken further, and are usually a dual fuel diesel oil. The Synthetics you can take slightly further, in some engines 7500 in others 10,000k's, depending on which oil. Thinner and thicker, 5w40 is the lowest any car should go in Australia on excellent advice. Some thinner oils act in critical areas the same as a thicker oil, its all depends. Name the oils you would like to yuse, also how many k's has she got ?

I use whatever i can get a good price for. I just used Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 as i picked it up for $6 at K-Mart clearance. Its when they changed to the new bottles. It will happen again soon as they are changing again. Shell helix Ultra is one of the best out there, up there with Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, etc. I now run Mobil Delvac MX 15w40 which is one of my regulars (I buy it as Repco Diesel Oil, SL/CI-4) as its cheaper. Repco branded oils are rebottled Mobil oils, says so on the bottle and Mobil will tell you themselves.

Running Castrol EDGE synthetic for nearly 2 years now, extremely pleased.

Previousl lube was Amsoil, also excellent, just not easy to source

Anything from a 5w40 in colder months to 15w50 (MObil, Valvoline Durablend etc) or 10w60 (Castrol Edge) in the summer. The LS1's are a strange animal where some run better on thinner and some better on thicker. What are you using at the moment ? And are you having any issues ?

I normally put Penrite everyday fully synthetic in, but I'm thinking of trying a new oil based on some reading here. Can anyone give any input into these choices:

Note engine has only recently been rebuilt, and its a Ecotec
    • Penrite Sin 15-40 $70
      Shell Helix Ultra 5-40 $62
      Mobile1 Supersyn 5-50 $75
      Valvoline Synpower 10-50 $67

They are all excellent oils and i have used nearly all of them. Are you in Melbourne, look for those oils in Big W. The Shell and Mobil 1 around $56 there. Synpower look for it at Liberty Servos, i get it at some for $45 regularly. For Summer i would be inclined to use the Penrite Sin 15w40 and Synpower, even though the others will hold up just as good, they are just thinner, if you have no leaks use them.

Recently rebuilt, go the thinnest you can. Has it been run in ?
