Remove it from TV?
Display it at a later time (after 9pm)?
Leave it on?

ok you may be aware of the speeding add that is beeing shown on tv at the moment that shows a car loosing control and hitting a women and her child, we need as much ppl to vote so i can send it to qld goverment so they can do something about it!
It's a very disturbing ad and sickening, they shouldn't be allowed to put it on tv...like fair enough the speeding ad's to put a message across not to speed but using a baby in this ad they way they did is just wrong.
I find it horrific, but it definitely gets the point across...every K over, is a Killer......and it wasn't a youngster behind the wheel , either......it can happen to anyone.......so sorry , spac.... I have to sorta disagree with you....things in movies people watch are pretty disgusting /horrific too...and people pay good $$$$ to see them!!! so..where do we draw the line????
Yeah I agree with Rattattack1313 ... sorry but the more powerful the ad the more powerful the msg the better you get through to soem ppl... we had an add here in Perth, Had a catchy tune about a kid riding his new speed racer and your watching this little tacker ride his new bike and down the foot path and thn yups onto the road and bam hit by a speeding car... the kid playing the part acually had to make appearences in schools to prove he was not dead... biggest talk of the town almost! but it certainly did what Road Transport wanted... hit home HARD and put accross a huge mesage ... I guess this is just aniother version!
Being from NSW I am yet to see this ad, but I could imagine what its like. The government seems to be using these shock tactics a lot, they've done it for road safety, drugs and smoking here. My opinion is a bit divided, I'm all for it if it works, but I also have the attitude of why should I have to see that I'm very squeemish and theres one smoking add they play here that makes me physically feel sick which annoys me because I have never had a smoke in my life. Another issue would be the fact that young kids may see the ad, I sure as hell wouldn't want my 5 year old watching something like that it would give the poor kid nightmares.
I don't know what the solution is, If it works great, but at what cost dont want everyone in QLD getting nightmares over an ad. Maybe they could make a scheme where if u get booked for speeding, dui, neg driving etc.. u have to go and watch movies like this ad and real crash and ambulance footage, that way they would really be reaching their target audience and sparing the rest of us responsible drivers.......
But prevention is better then cure.
Why only scare people about it after they have killed someone?
I reckon it is a disturbing ad, I'm not a week stomached person but I'll avoid watching it if at the time I'm feeling like 'not' seeing blood.
But its what needs to be done, people (ie idiots) need to realise that anything can happen, and that its not so much them that will always cop the pain of the crash.
Keep it on the air. Alot of people I've spoken too said it was sick, but it had to be there.
question for the people who've said leave it on....is this ad gonna stop you from speeding and make you sit on the speed limits ALL the time...?
I may go slightly over the limit at times...generally only to keep my place in the flow of traffic...( my wife is a brilliant hand-brake..).... but I definitely don't speed all the time.......
if someone is able to obtian this ad please forward it to me so it can be hosted for viewing for other members

I remember a rather disturbing ad from about ten years ago. It was a car speeding down the main street of some town at about only 10ks over and he hit an old man crossing the street and sent him flying. Wasn't very nice at all imho...
TORANAS FOREVER!!!!!

i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
Never seen the ad, but yes that s[eed racer one was pretty horrific, but alll so true, SHOCKING indeed but def getting the ,essage across as it also envokes threads like this wit people talking about it, i rekon they def work![]()
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
One of my freinds friends died the night after these ad's were realeasd, you may have heard of the 18 yr old girl who was hit by a soarer on the highway at Yatala by two people racing.
She died instantly. her brother was saw everything, it's so sad.
These ads do nothing.
Jason
Every (k) over is a THRILLER!!
Sad to hear it.
But, do you think the guy that hit the girl is going to continue street racing, if he does he's a true idiot. If he doesn't then it did basically the same thing the ad did.
Sorry i havn't seen the add either, guess its a QLD thing.
I am personally sick of these adds. They keep using these shock tactics and it isn't working. How many times do they need to prove that hard hitting, shocking adds are not going to save lives.
When are the governments going to realise that putting all this money into driver training rather then these adds is going to save more lives. Sure speed is a contributor, but its not the main reason for most accidents.
There is another add on at the moment that really annoys me. its not graphic or anything. They have two falcons lined up next to each other one traveling 5 km/s quicker then the other. They brake at the same point and they prove that 5 kays over the speed limit means you increase your stopping distance by large amounts. 35 extra meters or something at 65km/h. What they don't tell you is that there are lots of things you can do other then braking to avoid that truck. Turning for one, if there is enough room around the truck why not steer around it. Plus, they are using AU falcons, i'm fairly sure the AU is fitted with ABS. another point they could mention is to by a car with ABS.
Sorry, i'm rambling.
Now for a prayer...
To our god, who art made in Adelaide. Holden be thy name. Thy legends come, and championships won, on circuits as it is on Mount Panorama. Give us this day our daily grunt, and forgive us our burnouts, as we forgive those who choose to drive fords. Lead us into temptation, and deliver us a V8. For thine is the spirit, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever.
HOLDEN!
The ad doesnt shock me, i see it and thats it. While im driving i dont think about the ad and watch my speed, make sure im exactly on the speed limit or under.
Some people say less talk more action, i say more torque less traction.
I think it does its job but the eratic way the bloke was driving had a fair bit to do with the accident. The people who are always in a hurry ,in and out of lanes contribute a lot to accidents not to mention piss off the drivers around them.

I noticed on the queensland governments transport site (the link above) that the ad is rated M. Does this mean they should have a warning before it or as the option above only on later in the night?? To watch a M movie you have to 15 so why have the ad on at like 4 in the afternoon????

I've got to 100% agree with you on this bit, VSTrev, I reckon it is far too easy for people to get a licence to drive, and the standards of the average driver on our roads reflects this.Originally Posted by VSTrev
The Qld Government has finally twigged to this in a small way, by starting up Q-Ride for people wanting to get their motorbike licence. Instead of the usual 12 months on a learners and then being restricted to a 250cc or less while on P-plates, you can now do a 2 day course at an accredited training provider, which in my experience was bloody awesome, and you have your open licence immediately. I had a dead set fear of getting on my bike for months after doing that course, and a much better understanding of its limitations and dynamics in all sorts or normal and emergency maneuvers.
That's only from a 2 day course.
They covered all sorts of stuff, from the basics like turns and stops, working the signals and mirrors, chicanes and all that basic kinda stuff on the 1st day, into things like emergency braking, countersteering, roadcraft, defensive driving and accident prevention, and finally a 30km trip on the road with an instructor at the front and back of our group. They would periodically pull over and offer some advice, constantly watching what we were doing and assessing our safety and attitudes.
Above all, the biggest impression I gained from the course was that if you are involved in a accident, it is always, in some degree, your fault. Because as far as motorbikes go, it really doesn't matter a hell of a lot whose fault it was, you are going to be in a real bad way if you collect a car or a truck, whether or not it was their fault or yours. Don't leave the prevention of an accident in the other driver's hands, cos it's you that's going to bite it!
The mindset that these 2 days of intensive driver training instilled in me 100% washed over into driving my car, too. Like always being on the lookout for potential hazards ahead, driving to suit conditions instead of just sitting on the speed limit, and taking full repsonsibility for prevention of accidents.
I haven't had an accident in over 10 years, and even so, this course was a massive wake up call for me.
Why shouldn't training like this be mandatory for all new drivers?
It's never fast enough...
Just to compare with another field as well, if you go for a pilot's licence, the first level you can achieve is your Private licence, which will let you fly passengers anywhere in Australia, but it limits you so that you can't work in a commercial field, like charter or flight instructing or anything like that.
The MINIMUM requirements (which you would virtually have to be a freak to achieve) for just the Private licence are 40 hours of flight instruction, and probably double that amount of time in the classroom, and maybe triple that amount of time in home study, just to achieve the pass marks in the theory subjects, and also to achieve the levels of knowledge and skill necessary to pass the flight test.
Commerical minimum levels are 150 hours flight training and 7 additional theory subjects (usually takes about 1-2 months of solid theory classes to pass those), and Airline pilots require a minimum of 1,500 hours flight time, plus even further passes in theory exams.
These minimum levels of training are necessary because aeroplanes are potentially extremely dangerous machines in poorly trained hands. Other people's lives are in your hands on a regular basis.
Can't the same be said about cars?
It's never fast enough...
Leave the add exactly the way it is. If it is getting attention, either good or bad it just might achieve something towards curbing the shocking complacent attitude a lot of Australian people have on our roads. Wake up to yourselves and try to understand what is happening out on our roads. Most people don't have any idea what we have to deal with at the scene of a road accident rescue. We deal in blood, screaming, pain and quite often death. So while you're tucked up warm in your beds and are quite oblivious to what is happening on our roads, we're out there dealing with the results of poor driving skills, inattention and carelessness. Road accidents aren't pretty and neither is the commercial you're all talking about but it's real. If you find it offensive, take it upon yourself to do something about it then. Start campaigning for safer roads and more comprehensive driving lessons and exams. Do something!

I have seen this ad many times on TV, and I usually change the channel when it comes on. It is very graphic, but it does get the point across. I really think it really makes us more aware of all the consequences of speeding, in that way. So even though it is graphic, I've only ever seen it on late at night (9.30pm onwards), so I say leave it on for now.

that bike course sounds interesting.......................I have been riding on the roads since I was 14 &1/2...(34 or so years.....am now 48....local cops were nice to me cos I was only riding from home to work..small country town, etc etc...)..and I have always ridden as if every car is out to run me off the road...as some have tried over the years......(including 1 cop car in Victoria, that couldnt catch me, so he knocked me off the road.......bastard...lol..)....![]()
