Turbos are gay. Good luck putting power to the ground with your powerband at redline. I dont know who said they are more reliable than a supercharger but they have obviously never delt with turbos that much. A huge majority of my friends are alwaying replacing turbos and gaskets. And after a 5000k service, the oil is terrible. I remember when we were just cruising around one night and then white smoke started pouring out the back of the 180sx. Turbos are good for a small engine that you never really drive much and want some extra power. But for somthing with real power, you are looking at a roots blower. I mean, i have never seen a Turbo run a 4 second pass
Not to mention that you have shit loads of lag. Unless you like that sort of thing :S:S
EDIT: if you want turbos on a v8, do a staged setup.
Have you seen the power curve of an xr6 turbo? Or of vn_lukes vn (although this one goes ballistic at 3500, but still not redline)
I have drivin 180sx's, Pulsar SSS's, Skylines, Supras, Aristos and Soarers. And all of them are fun. But it gets annoying not having that power on tap. The only engines reliable out of them are the Toyotas.
Reliablilty with most of those come down to the engine build and tuner. Plenty of quick/high HP Nissan RB motors floating around that are reliable.

Reliabilty comes down to good quality parts, their up keep and selecting the right one for the right job. Half the time you see people being tight asses and buying cheap junk which fails, or using something not suited to the application.

I will agree with that totally. but how many times do you see a second hand supercharger fail?
Quite often I've seen superchargers fail. Last year we broke 3 whipple snouts on their quad rotor setup (not the only one to do this, but its now know 1500hp is the limit for those whipples.). Went to a second hand 14/71 which shat a rotor. Touch wood everything has been fine the last 3 months. Unless it is cheap (so I can get it rebuilt), I'll avoid second hand chargers, as you don't know the full condition of bearings/gears/oil.
I've seen quite a few powerdyne's eat internal belts, Pro-chargers eat bearings and roots style self destruct (is rare but has happened). Which like turbochargers is either lack of maintance or wrong application (like our whipple). Set either up right and they can be reliable as the other.

heh, funny, I've seen a blower fail hard. Mate sold a torn to bits STA centrifugal blower a while back, lunched itself bolted to an XR8 ute. Working attached to a performance workshop, I've seen more issues come through with SC appliations than turbos. Granted that could be just this particular customer base, but turbo wins for me. Not saying every turbo setup is better than every SC setup, but I will be using a turbo on my 3800
Simply because they sound great on big engines, and i love the turbo lag you get as it builds up and then just explodes in power. Had an audi RS6 with that and loved the delay before serious acceleration. Just abit more fun than a supercharger i think
