    Default Messenger Virus

    Hey all, I need help

At about 6pm tonight one of my mates let me know I had sent them a MSN Mssenger virus. Shortly after a few others had too

    The message is
Well I finally ordered those acai berry pills that I have been hearing about all the time and it has been 2 weeks now and I lost 22 pounds already, so I am living proof that they did work and still are working, best of all they cost only five dollars to try at Acai Elite - The ultimate Weight Loss Berry!
    the website changes address tho

I did some searches and found some info, change pasword, run spybot kill and destroy anti-spamware stuff, virus scans, system restore etc.

    NO LUCK!!

Can someone help please, Im just short of changing my account but the problem is everyone uses that account to email me

i get similar things through contacts who are OFFLINE, messages that have links to 'image sites' etc etc

you click on them and ur asked to 'log on' with your email address and password

obvously DONT DO IT- as far as i'm concerned, its not an actual trojan or anything like that, just a way to spam crap across msn i guess

alright well i may have resolved it, the contact i was talking too had Messenger running since mid day and just used it to check email when they noticed my message sent through, but several contacts had recieved that message before i changed password, system restore etc (obviously)

So I may have fixed it afterall

would still like to know where it come from tho

Its a pest pops up every few months, just the first message changes used to be 'Is this you?' then a link and bingo your infected.. Easiest way to stop it was open running processors and kill it, then open a prompt and kill it in start up, then use a spyware killer like spy doctor or spy sweeper (is the better one). Then it completely removes it from your system. Also beaware that it will seem to be gone but sometimes isnt.

Ditto - I get fed up of being messaged by contacts with this virus. Initially I tell them they have it but if they fail to clean it up I simply block them.

I do know one way of getting it is by using one of those 'who has blocked me' programs.

I'm almost certain it's not your pc that's sending the message, it's some remote bot controlled pc with your login details. How it gets the details is what I'm trying to nut out... It'd have to be either a phishing site, or some kind of background keylogging malware, hmm.

Someone who's infected, what did you do to get infected exactly, just visit a site? Visit a site and enter details? Download and run a program accidentally?

I had one before, i was just about to close something, and a new window popped up, and the curser just happened to hit the link. All i did was do a normal virus scan and it was gone.

Its safe to say clair, that ANYthing with a link in it is some sort of virus (oh are these pics too naughty for myspace lmfao). I don't click anything from anyone now, unless were actually chatting and say look at this....

Hehehe....I laugh at those that use MSN Live Messenger and get these things. I use Trillian, and use it to connect to the Live Messenger network. No problems at all.

If you use one of the who has blocked me programs that you need to enter your msn login in details in order to determine who has. A friend was infected with it, and when he was offline the bot would sign in, spam everyone in his contact list with a website, then sign out again.

We laugh at nerds, geeks and leet hax0rs who come onto a car forum and knock people for lack of computer knowledge. No need for it mate, save it for your LAN parties.

i'll try and get a screenshot of the site in question- its not the LINK thats the error, its when u enter your "log in details" onto the site, u get infected.

i gave it a shot with a fake address, you hit logon, and it just refreshes to the same page- meaning they now have ur login details.

    Okay guys,

in researching the issue I found many replies similar to those above at various IT forums, "I block idiots who are stupid enough to get the virus", "cant be that hard to keep ontop of spam and virus" etc.

Can I just say Im not an IT technician but I'm not an idiot either. I wasnt aware I had it until about 6pm when I set my status to Away and got many replies with "you have a virus"

The solution was change password and spybot search and destroy. While I was at is I did a virus scan, clean temp files etc.

Im always on top of virus definitions and run scans every Friday night, and I dont follow links that seem odd. Plus the laptop was only formatted roughly 4 months ago.

Anyway no one can acctually tell me how it works or where it comes from, so stuffed if I know where it coms from.

Sometimes its not always "the idiot who owns the account", and from this end unless someone tells you about it, you have NFI its even happening, especially when your acctually offline and have the computer OFF when people recieve the message.
